But because the second xbox didnt even last a day they decided to refund us back the money for the warrenty. Its been an expensive refund because of the distance away we live I had to get a total of 4 buses to and from town to get this sorted. I think we will just avoid the place from now on. My boyfriends parents had similar troubles and had to exchange a brand new xbox and a game because neither would work.
I used to work for GS and their warranties are worth nothing really.
You're covered with them for the first 12 months anyway, after which your warranty is serviced by Allianz. You're only covered for your original console, and not for any peripherals.
Also, with a 360, you're covered against RROD for 3 years with Microsoft.
GS do (or did!) test all consoles, but it's possible to do the towel trick on a 360, which will get you a few hours more use before it RROD's again, so GS do get caught with the odd cack console.0 -
well its just bad luck that our local one keeps getting caught out lol. My boyfriend says he was told it wouldnt be covered against acidental damage unless he bought this warrenty and since we plan on moving he thought it would be best to get covered? Whats the towel trick if you dont mind me asking?0

Sure, this is far from an actual solution, and if anything, this should reaffirm that voice in your head telling you to call up Microsoft and get an RMA number, but nonetheless, it seems that blanketing your 360 with a towel, firing it up for 10 minutes or so, turning it off, and then removing the towel will mysteriously allow your machine to function for a couple hours.
The above is quoted from a random site i found when googling "towel trick 360". Some of the comments suggest its genuine.
I wonder if wrapping it in cotton wool would get it to work for longer? :X *joke btw*You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -
One of the comments on the above post states this:
exactly what i was going to say, it melts the cracked solder joints. a heatgun it a better fix. Both are only temporary though. You can narrow down the cause of the red light by reading the error code, theres a few guides online for it.
And I remember this being on watchdog also, they soldered the joints of a few on the show and they were working again! You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -
That fix was on the PS3. The Xbox issue is caused by a heatsink seating issue in which the mechanism holding the CPU/heatsink in place allows the heatsink to part company with the top of the CPU causing the system to go into thermal shut-down.
The repair carried-out involves fitting a plate to push the heatsink down and stop it moving.Never Knowingly Understood.

Ah i can just remember thinking thank goodness mine is the newer version (which it was supposed to be fixed on)......I have a ps3 and xbox 360 so it couldve been either on watchdog.
The website i listed did say it was for xbox 360 though (towel trick) but a few people did advise to go for a more permanent solution rather than this as it will probably only cause more problems. You keep using that word.
