Have you thought of a pawn shop?
Not brand new, but you can get some bargains0 -
My original White gold engagement ring was from Argos, in February I'll have had it for 3 years and it's starting to yellow as the plating is wearing off. My friend who got engaged 5 months before me also has a White gold engagement ring and hers is still White. I know a couple of other people whi have white gold eings from argos and theirs is the same so my advice would be to go to a jewellers to get your wedding ring as from experience Argos may be cheap but the quality is not always great.0

I've been told that white gold needs to be redipped/coated every year. Which is one reason why I went for platinum.
Interesting thread! We are still on the lookout for wedding rings so will follow with interest.7 Feb 2012: 10st7lbs14 Feb: 10st4.5lbs

White gold is basically an alloy of yellow gold plated with a white metal called Rhodium. This plating will always wear through and go yellow, though how long it takes depends on whether you expose the ring to soaps/shampoos/other chemicals etc and also the acidity of your skin. You can have it re-plated at any jewellers and this will bring it up like new and also get rid of any minor scratches etc, but I'm not sure of the cost these days, it used to be about £30 at Ernest Jones so I'm sure you can get it cheaper at a local jeweller, but that was about 4 years ago and the price of metal has gone up since then.0 -

I have had my white gold wedding and engagement rings for over 32 years and they are both still as white as they ever were. The engagement ring wasn't expensive, it was from H Samuel, though the wedding ring is an 8mm flat band which was made in the Birmingham Jewellery Quarter for £75, which I suppose was relatively pricey in 1979 (about a month's mortgage payment so not really really costly).0 -
Going ring shopping next week and have earmarked a few shops to go to, mostly independant ones and a couple of second hand ones. Fingers crossed we find what we want at a price that we want! lol:T Looking forward to the future :T0

My wedding ring is white gold from argos and still looks gorgeous. Still in shape and great condition. Cost me £70, I hate jewelery and it was the only one I found that I liked

We used Wedding Rings Direct too - they were great.
We ordered one ring to make sure of the quality, then ordered the other. We didn't realise it at the time, but this was a genius idea as they sent us a 10% off next purchase voucher with the first ring!
I'd recommend looking at all the shapes and weights available before you order. I'm now an expert on D-shape, Court etc etc...
Our local jeweller made a mistake with our order so we ended up getting married with a couple of £2 rings from Argos then took our time over the internet order.
(Someone was looking for a channel set diamond ring - there are quite a few on here: http://www.weddingrings-direct.com/show_sub_cat/half_eternity_rings-brilliant_cut/95/ )
All done now, but certainly like the sound of Bettes Metals :A
Good luck!

Is Betts a genuine deal? It just seems too good to be true! Is everything hallmarked and above-board?
Apologies for being cynical, but I was looking for platinum 5mm groom's band. I'd looked at one in Goldsmiths and it was about £1400 (no idea of the weight). Then looked at weddingringsdirect and was amazed it was only £970 on there (11.5g) ... but I was astonished to see it at just UNDER £600 for over 14g of platinum!
I know high street places add quite a bit ... but £800!?"The most desirable trait of the internet is the ability to attribute quotes to anyone."

Hi all
Just in the process of looking for wedding bands also. Betts sounds like a great deal. I have had a look at their website and hopefully can register as a hobbyist as others have suggested. Any tips on how easy/ hard this process is and what is required?
