ok, then back to basics tomorrow. I've been assuming you're talking about a wifi connection ?? If so, are you able to connect okay with ethernet cable ??? If so, this narrows it down to a wifi issue, and probably the config of the wifi card. Check device manager to see if your wifi card is enabled and no issues with it, (like a yellow and black ! next to it. Next move is to uninstall the wifi card, and reboot the pc. Windows will then detect and reinstall the wifi card, and then see if you can connect. Have a good kip and come back to it fresh tomorrow :)

Is this windows 7, it has a real nasty bug of obtaining an ip from sites you are not even trying to connect to so it can not establish an ip of the same number.

In addition to the Gunjacks suggestion, if this doesn't work, try downloading the latest wifi driver. One may have the choice hetween the PC manufacturer's list of drivers, or the wifi chip maker's driver (device manager will often tell who the latter is).

Another thing you can try is to beg/borrow a usb wifi dongle, if this works it means that your mini wifi card is faulty - I have seen this before (Acer).

    Hi there GunJack
For some reason I've sorted it. It definitely was a wifi connection problem - I managed to do a diagnostic check which showed there were two wifi's running? So I disabled one. Then I deleted the virgin profile and set it up from scratch and it's been fine all day. :-)

My son's laptop has now lost his connection, after working fine all morning. We've had nothing but connection problems since we changed from Sky broadband to Virgin. Quite often we're online and then for some unknown reason we loose our connection, yet the signal says 'Excellent'.

I'm not going to worry about improving our set ups at the moment as I am busy for the next few days. Probably post for some help again next weekend :o

    Thanks for your help.
