Very pleased with my Kindle 3, the e-Ink display is very good.
Amazon are rumoured to be bringing out a new model (colour touch screen) later this year.
If you get one buy a case for it as well. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
+1 for the Amazon kindle -- it's a lovely little device.BLOODBATH IN THE EVENING THEN? OR PERHAPS THE AFTERNOON? OR THE MORNING? OH, FORGET THIS MALARKEY!

Loads of books suitable for children all the classics Dickens, Alice in Wonderland, Waterbabies etc I am sure lots of modern children's literature is available (plus my old faves Enid Blyton)0

Does she read a lot or will she be expecting it to be good for something other than reading books on?0

she reads quite a lot. i noticed that some of the tablets have ereaders on and i was wondering if any of them are any good? if not i think i'll go for the kindle cos ive heard nothing but good things about them x0

The tablets use normal laptop screens, so have to be recharged all the time. And the temptation to play games will be higher. And the displays are not as nice to read on as e-ink. An e-ink reader (like the Kindle) has loooong battery life (it is only 'on' when it turns a page, for a second or so, is probably more portable, and completely unsuitable for games. Very different devices. Also, cheap tablets are less satisfying than good ebook readers, at the same pricepoint. Good tablets are a LOT more (top Apple ones touch £600, same as a really powerful laptop, but without the processing power!)0

We have a Kindle sort of like between the two of us and would 100% recommend - its brilliant and u can read as well in the sunlight - we have also used ours abraod to pull in daily newspapers via free wifi - very useful saves paying the 3 euros for each paper! You get the Mail for 75p a day - there are 1000's of freebie books too and the classics are all free on amazon incl things like Oliver Twist, Jane Eyre etcBetter to light a candle than to curse the darkness. :beer:0

Snap! I read mine for 2 hours a day on my commute, and if I can't sleep I have the cover with the reading light built-in so I'll read it then too. I have the WiFi one - didn't think the extra cost for the 3G was worth it really. I'd be lost without mine now!DMP Mutual Support Thread member 244
