Anyone else had hassle for price checking in store?

article wrote:I was almost arrested in Tesco this week. My crime? Comparing prices. Evidently, this is such a security issue for Tesco that it wants you booted out of the store. The deputy manager rushed up to me within minutes of my arriving at one of its London supermarkets. The security cameras had spotted me with a pen and paper in hand, noting the prices of goods on the shelves. "Excuse me, what are you doing?" he said. I told him I was, well, writing down prices."You're not allowed to do that. It's illegal. Where are you from? Are you from the media?" I don't feel Tesco has any right to demand my employment status, so I just said: "I'm a private individual, I'm buying some stuff here, and I'm comparing prices."
It obviously didn't satisfy him. "It's illegal to write things down and you can't take any photographs, either. If you want to check the prices, take the item to the till and pay for it there. The price will be on the receipt," he said, pointing me to the exit.

He shoudl have taken a trolley and thrown a few things into it then it would have looked like he was just scoring things off his shopping list. I'm thinking they knew who he was anyway.0

Price comparers beware! Have a look at the Guardian article entitled "Now it's illegal to write down prices in a Tesco supermarket".0

This is the link - seems very odd behaviour from Tesco
Especially considering another article which is supposed to allow price checking on phones
http://www.thinkbroadband.com/news/4740-tesco-to-trial-free-wi-fi-in-stores.htmlWi-Fi could help shoppers to read product reviews or compare prices between Tesco and other retailers whilst doing the weekly shop.
I must admit I have been wary of Tesco being a law unto themselves after this: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-2029808/Tesco-branded-shoplifter--happen-YOU.html0 -

Struggling with the "illegal to write things down" comment (photographs, at a push, maybe ... but "writing things down"??) after all, if you purchase the items, you get an itemised till receipt! So, the question begs to be asked: are itemised till receipts illegal as they are "written down"?0

If the journalist from The Gruniad doesn't like like it, I would suggest that he does what I do - NEVER set foot in Tesco !
They are on my list - the one headed by Ryanair

Not in Tesco but I did experience something similar to this in Aldi once, the security guard approached me and asked what I was doing, it was kind of intimidating too. And that's why I always make sure to have a list made up that includes prices checked online before deciding to shop in either Aldi or Lidl, as it's a more subtle way of comparing prices they don't appear to notice.
I also tend to check the prices on mySupermarket beforehand.0
