i recently accompanied a friend of mine on her weekly shop at tesco. her trolley held the usual milk, bread etc nothing unusual except for when she got to the paying bit. they said the bill was in the region of £80. she handed a bundle of money off tokens and we waited while they were scanned and her bill came down to £23 or there abouts. it was then i noticed that she had hardly any of the products that the tokens were for. she said she does it every week and they are always accepted. was she just extremely lucky for this to happen or am i missing out on a major opportunity. i remember many moons ago that some supermarkets did this but we are talking about 30 yrs ago can someone clear up this confusion for me as i dont want to go on my merry way clipping coupons and be told no0

Unfortunately your friend is in the wrong here.
No coupon should be used unless you buy the product. If the SA takes coupons when the product has not been purchased, there could be repercussions for the SA's job.
There could also be repercussions for other proper coupon users in the future as the supermarket could have problems redeeming these coupons.
Please read this thread for the correct coupon usage policy.

Waitrose and Tesco did used to accept coupons for stuff you hadnt bought until about two years ago, however now it is strictly not allowed and classed as fraud. Xx0

Oooh, the ice-cream one's a good one if you have anyone addicted to Ben and Jerry's - thats if its still on offer - it was half price at £2.22 so 3 of them would be £6.66 and then the £2.00 off would make it £4.66 for 3 tubs which is pretty good for B&J's!0 -
Hi, Sorry if i'm being ignorant, but what is the best way to make good use of the shopping list please? Are the prices before or after the voucher or coupons have been used? Thankyou to MT too, that must have taken ages, so would like to make good use of your hard work.0

The prices are before the coupons have been used, they are the current offer prices according to My Supermarket (or word of mouth when it comes to other non-online stores). The 'shopping list' prices are the best current offer prices on items that coupons are either currently available for or in a few cases were available until recently and have now been withdrawn but are still within date and valid. The reason for the shopping list is most coupons don't really bring down prices much on their own, but in conjunction with special offers you can make really substantial savings. For example in the next couple of days I am planning a tesco shop, with just reductions and multibuys I will save £49.50 according to MyS, which is good, but in conjunction with coupons including the price flop tesco coupons, and some club card vouchers the saving will actually be....£94! So as you can see if you use coupons wisely and shrewdly you can save a mint! I use MTs very helpful shopping list along with doing my own comparisons and checks on MyS, works really well so far xx0 -
Ahhh i see, thankyou dasophster, good explanation. I'm going to plan a shop now.0

Its £2.49 not £2.22 as shown in price flop mag so that would make it £7.47 and with coupon £5.47. Could you use more than one ice cream coupon? Got some good coupons finally but I doubt my t will allow me to make full use of them by not actually stocking the items. Plus the is the little matter of having money to buy this in the first place.Sealed pot challenge no5 member no1816!!0
