Savings, Guarantee Pension Credit, Housing Benefit & Council Tax Benefit

Look, sunnyone, I'm not really interested in your own financial situation, whether you have a son to keep or whether younger people have to live on their savings.
I'll ask you this one question:
Do you claim all the benefits you are entitled to?
I'm sure the answer will be 'yes'.
And in that case, why are you so against someone (possibly) being entitled to claim CTB & HB even though they have savings?
The key word here is 'entitled'.
FGS, I've highlighted the word enough in my previous post.
Why can't you understand that I'm not talking about benefit fraud or your opinion on what's fair here?.
I'm talking about what the DWP say my Mum is entitled to receive.
And that's what I asked in my original post.
In case you've still not got the point, here it is again:
You will note (I hope) that there is no intention of not telling the local council about her savings.
That would be benefit fraud, wouldn't it!
I'm not changing the level to suit a personal situation, I'm interested in what the Government (& therefore local council) say my Mum is entitled to.
I don't give a toss whether you think it's unfair to you or your elderly relatives or not.
Wrong, we dont claim child tax credits, we have made sure we had a large cushion for a rainy day and my god its now pouring so we are living on that.
I have never mentioned fraud, I have just pointed out that many people have to live on their savings and investments and we all survive it, people with large sums of savings/investments are rightly denied means tested benfits and the benefits system is much more generous for the over 60's as it is so there is no need to feel agrieved on your mums behalf IF when you inform the pensions service of your mothers current situation she has her pension credit removed.
You already had the answer to your question when you posted this thread which makes me wonder why you did so, the only reason i can see is to flame.0 -

If you don't, don't blame anybody else for doing so.I have never mentioned fraud, I have just pointed out that many people have to live on their savings and investments and we all survive it, people with large sums of savings/investments are rightly denied means tested benfits and the benefits system is much more generous for the over 60's as it is so there is no need to feel agrieved on your mums behalf IF when you inform the pensions service of your mothers current situation she has her pension credit removed. You already had the answer to your question when you posted this thread which makes me wonder why you did so, the only reason i can see is to flame.
No, I didn't.
Have you even read my first post?
If so, have you understood the words?
I've already quoted it again in my post #24 but here it is again as you are now assigning ulterior motives to my very valid question:As she's over 75, DWP have given her an assessed income period without an end date for her Pension Credit.
This means that she does not have to tell them if there is a change in her savings or pensions.
So she will continue to receive the Guarantee Pension Credit - I think.
Why would I say 'I think' if I knew the answer before I posted the question?I'm assuming that as she will continue to receive Guarantee Pension Credit she will still be entitled to CTB & HB, even though her savings are over the £16,00 limit.
Am I right?
Why would I say 'I'm assuming' and ask 'Am I Right?' if I knew the answer before I posted the question?I guess I'll know the answer to this pretty soon but just wondered what anybody else thought.
Why would I say 'I guess I'll know the answer to this pretty soon' (i.e. when the DWP write back to Mum to advise her of her revised benefits) if I if I knew the answer before I posted the question?
As it turns out, Whiteknight and anmarj have kindly provided information that shows my assumptions and thoughts in my first post (i.e. that she'll definitely continue getting GPC/CTB & HB as she has an Assessed Income Period) were in fact not accurate.
So for you to say this:You already had the answer to your question when you posted this thread which makes me wonder why you did so, the only reason i can see is to flame.
As for intention to flame, I think you are doing a pretty good job of that by bleating on about savings and your son who 'needs keeping' and your elderly relatives who have made provision for their retirement instead of answering the question I asked.0
