A puppy who is quiet! Blimey.

Hope everything goes well at the vets and you have a long and very happy life with little Jackie.
  • yes he has pooped and weed in the garden, and i gave him lots of praise, unfortunatly i didnt buy any treats, but will do when i go out this afternoon, is there any that you would recommend, dont want to go upsetting his tummy. will get son to take some pics later if we can find camera lead. everything got moved yesterday in case jack wanted to explore, and didnt want him chewing things, tho at the mo he is happy laid on his bed with a cuddly toy and just gets up for a drink, will be regularly taking him out in to garden til he starts to tell me he needs to go, early days yet, but no accidents in house so far

  • Something plain if you are worried about an upset tum. Maybe just some cooked chicken or some tiny pieces of cheese.

I would reccomend buying one of these too: http://www.kongcompany.com/products/dogs/kong-rubber-toys/classic/kong-classic

Don't waste your money on the paste just force in some pieces of meat, cheese and a bit of raw carrot (my dogs love raw carrot). Fill it really full and Jack should be busy for a good while. I also use cheap cream cheese with carrot :) I think some people fill with tinned dog food and then freeze it but I imagine that to be a bit messy.
  • he is booked in at the vets in the morning for his injection,

Congrats on your puppy Jack! :D I'm shocked he has never had his puppy injections at 6 months old!

Sounds like you are doing a good job so far, I would definitely change him off the pedigree as it really is rubbish lots of threads on here about good quality reasonable price food. Just change it gradually over a week or so save upsetting his tummy.

    But mainly enjoy him! ;)

You could get him little coachie treats - most pet shops have them - I like the petites - little bones, very bland. Dont give too many of any treats, it could upset his little tummy. I do hope he gets a bit livelier though, it doesnt seem right a baby should be so quiet. xxx May be he is just disorientated. Was he lively at the owners house?

  • at his last home they had him in a pet carrier when i went to see him, so no idea what he was like, he loves been picked up and cuddled. got some little bone treats for now, off to get dry dog food tomorrow, been researching and royal canin sounds like a good one, but not sure which royal canine? any help please?
thought jack hadnt had any accidents, but when i checked his bed it was wet, so all covers in washing machine as i type. he hasnt pooped in the house yet, maybe i'm lucky in taking him out at the right times, need to get him house trained as soon as possible, to make life easier, but as i know from my two sons, that it tkes time and patience, and puppy will be same

Well, the vet will advise you on the best food for him socks. I feed my a mix of Royal Canin skin support food (for itchiness) and at the moment Millwards which had a bogof offer on petsupermarket and which seems pretty good with 22% protein. I also add a bit of wet food or some of our left overs.

Oh, there is a jack russell forum if you google you will find it.
  • thanks i will ask the vet this morning.
jack is more playful this morning, despite waking me up at early hours whining.
he has managed to stay dry overnight, despite weeing in the house several times yesterday

Royal canin is fine, though I'd certainly consider James Wellbeloved and Arden Grange as well.

As for the toilet training, maybe the people who had him didn't bother to train him. having said that, dogs can go their own way. I've had a multi dog household for many years and usually have 5 at a time. In the decades of dog owning, I've not had any serious trouble with house training until the latest dog, who is now a year old and still not fully house-trained. She's improved a lot, but it's still a bit hit and miss.
