Are there any companies that buy back phones and then open new contracts out with them? I know Phones4U do, wondered if there were others around.

There's no such thing as a free lunch. If a company pays off your "old" contract, then they're getting commission from your "new" contract to do so. This in turn is paid by you as a higher price
