Hello-when i saw the consultant earlier in the week my urine sample was sent off to make sure i don't have an infection. Well today i have recieved a letter from the hospital telling me my urine had 'mixed growth' in it and that i need to send in a new clean sample to be tested. What on earth does that mean? I was given a new bottle last time, and i thought i was nice and clean when doing the sample. I feel really grubby now.

I feel rubbish as it is-with this horrible variocose vein down below-the swelling is just making me feel miserable now.

    keely.

Hi All just checking in before I go to bed. So tired. Just waiting for OH to get out the shower so I can get washed and ready for my bed.

Keely I would guess that maybe you didn't do a mid flow sample. I.e you wee a bit, stop, wee in the pot and then finish your wee. If you don't take a mid-flow sample then it can be contaminted very easily (not because you are gruby). Don't forget bacteria are everhwere, food, hair, clothes, hands, it doesn't mean we are dirty. Your sample just means that you had too many types of bacteria in it. I wouldn't worry just do it again using mid-flow.

As for the varicose vein, that sounds horrid. I thought my piles were bad enough :)

Right off to bed. Enjoy your night in front of the telly ladies :)

Evening all, I'm here too, and yes I'm in my pj's!

Missy, I'm not sure I'd go that far in the later stages of pregnancy, especially if DH wasn't coming too. I think visiting with baby in the new year sounds like a good plan.

We ended up having pizza, hm oven chips and beans for tea, was meant to be hm fish chips and mushy peas but the fish was still frozen, I was seriously annoyed!!

I think I may be starting with sciatica already! I have some twinges and aches that I remember well as being the early signs of it coming on. It was bad enough when i wasn't PG so I dread to think what it'll be like with a bump to carry around too! Not that I'm that big yet but last time I had it for 4 months! I really hope I'm wrong and it turns out to be nothing.

Don't worry hon, i've had a "mixed growth" result back as well. Its really common, so dont take it as you being grubby! My m/w said sometimes samples just do become contaminated by something, either in the home, or the lab/on way to lab, so they re-test again to rule out actual infections. To rule out all possibilities, she advised me to use a pad of cotton wool soaked in warm water (no soap etc) to clean "down there" immediately before having the wee. Then wash hands, and do the sample.

I cant offer much advice on the vein swelling, other than have you looked at Feme pads? (can get them on ebay) Narrow Gel pads that you chill, and are supposed to be v good relief post birth for sore "down there" areas, i would have thought that might offer some relief from your discomfort now as well? They are usually about £15, but if you can use them before birth as well as after, then it might be worth it! I'm thinking of getting some for my mat bag.

    Thanks for the help :)

Oh-a friend gave me some of those fem pad things for after the birth (as she never used them). I didn't even think to try them now! :o I'll give them a try.

    Hi everyone :)

I'm here, am just lurking on my phone, wondering if it's too early to go to bed... We called in at the in-laws on the way home from work, had dinner there and then have just been sat on the sofa watching tv since we got in. OH is now playing on the Playstation and I can't really be bothered to sit here and watch him play Batman when I could be lying cosy in bed reading a book... Maybe I'll just wait until 9pm...

Pip has been fairly quiet all day but has made up for it this evening! S/he's been going mental since about 6pm, constant kicks and 'rummaging'... I really think I'm going to miss this most of all afterwards... For those of you who have had babies before, did it take long to get used to not being pregnant after you had the baby?
