AVG E-Mail Scanner

Hi,
For some reason, the AVG E-mail scanner I am running keeps showing up with the message "E-mail scanner is not fully functional".
Having checked the AVG website FAQs, it appears to be recommending that this is deleted/disabled. However, when I try to do this using the uninstall programme they recommend downloading, nothing happens!!
It is also driving me mad as I am now getting around 50 to 60 spam messages every day, whereas before with the e-mail scanner working, it was about 5 or 6.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can get the e-mail scanner operational again - woudl it be best to completely remove the existing copy and download a new version?
Cheers.

Hi,
Thanks for getting back on this. I've installed using the repair option but the error is still there. E-mail provider is Tiscali, and have also noticed that at around the same time, OE would not open up one of the e-mail accounts set up as well - coincidence??
Thanks.0 -
Get rid of it and get Avast. much better program and its free.

Something further to add that I have just noticed.
I tried reinstalling the repair option, and the e-mail scanner stayed active. However, when I then downloaded the latest update, the e-mail scanner gave the same error message as before.0 -

Dont do this as their is no point.
Best thing to do is to check Outlook Express smtp settings for tiscali
I would check the settings against this http://www.tiscali.co.uk/help/email/oe_settings_start.html0 -

I had this with my AVG months ago. Mine was caused by a virus.

The e-mail scanner, scans your e-mails and should not affect the amount of SPAM that you receive. Why not uninstall the program and re-install? Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
Have checked both the settings and uninstalling and reinstalling the programme. The annoying thing is that I have not made any changes to e-mail accounts when the AVG problem started.
No problem with accessing secure sites either. No viruses detected when running AVG to scan the hard drive.

What are the settings in AVG, double click the AVG Icon then highlight email scanner then properties then properties again and on the server tab whats the settings? you will find them by highlighting pop and smtp in turn and clicking on modify.0 -
