Orange and UKMail

Be very careful ordering a new phone direct from Orange. They are using UKMail to deliver the phones. From my experience today I can only assume that UKMail are idiots/lazy/thieves.
Delivery was due for sometime between 8am and 6pm. I received a text from orange with the consignment number to track the delivery on UKMail's website. At 6:45am this morning the status was updated to Out On Delivery. Fine. Great. So far so good. I took the day off work to wait for the delivery. There's been someone in every second of every minute of every hour today. No delivery. I got home from work at 20:30 and checked the status: Check Address. I called their customer service number (no reply), so I called Orange to see what they had to say. I explained the situation and was put on hold so they could speak to UKMail. I was told that the delivery driver just couldn't find the address!!! Now, I live in the middle of housing estate in a medium sized town and has plenty of mobile phone coverage. The road I live on has been here over 5 years... so I would expect it would be on any satnav. So either the driver is an IDIOT incapable of using phone to contact the UKMail centre to get direction. Or, they are too LAZY to get out of their van to check the numbers on the front of my flat (it would have taken all of 10 seconds). Or they have just STOLEN my new phone.

My house has been here since the 60's.
We're above a shopping centre, so again, rather easy to find.
In the 12 months I have lived here, I have only once had a parcel delivered on the first attempt (this is despite giving detailed directions every time I order something)
Also, my postcode comes up as a church on a different road, about 100m away...
Never underestimate SatNav failure.0 -
I bet you are, and I wish you'd posted a bit earlier
. I ordered my upgrade at about 5pm, with the phone due to be delivered on Monday. Could be amusing!
Good enough is good enough, and I am more than good enough!:j
If all else fails, remember, keep calm and hug a spaniel!0 -
So you think the driver may have stolen after saying he couldn't find your address and therefore admitting to having the parcel?
Okay fair enough, its an understandable inconvenience to you -- but jeeze talk about over reacting! These things happen with all courier companies0 -
If the driver is saying he couldn't find your address there's no way for him to have stolen the phone! I understand your frustration, but don't start making totally unjustified foundations, it weakens your case.0

For him to have entered "check address" on his scanner he has to have the parcel with him to scan. That is obvious to the office staff at the depot and therefore there is no way he would even think of stealing it.
The only other way is to enter the consignment number into the scanner manually (without actually scanning the parcel), but even that implies that he has the parcel with him, so theft is not something he would be considering.
If you live in a flat its not hard to imagine he couldn't find you.
Why not have it sent to your work? Therefore completely removing the need to take the day off?
Not rocket science is it?Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
LOL, how do you get from "he couldn;t find the adress" to "he's stolen it" ?? Thats some huge steps to take there. A mistake was made, your phone is tracked they explained the situation.

How can you take the day off work and then get home from work at 8.30pm?
Clear to me you are either a liar/idiot/thief!(just kidding obviously, but it seems we can jump to these conclusions as quickly as we like).
A smile costs nothing, but gives a lot.It enriches those who receive it without making poorer those who give it.A smile takes only a moment, but the memory of it can last forever.0 -

our house has been here for over a decade
all the major Sat Navs take people onto a lovely big green area a mile long near the school
anyone who doesnt know the area gets lost coming here using sat nav
there can be other factors such as label printing errors
quite common but it just depends what the issue is
eg you live at 97 but the 9 gets sliced off
so courier is looking for a no 7 that may not exist
how can you take the day off work and get in from work at 8.30?0 -
Not sure who delivered my last 4 phones(direct from orange) but if they were uk mail they were quite good.0
