This is what I'm thinking, but when the guy ordered the phone surely he used some method of payment by which T-mobile can identify him with? I mean usually the package arrives at the billing address unless you choose otherwise, so can T-mobile not identify him from that?

Why would the guy need to go from door to door?
He knew exactly which door to knock at because he had previously ordered the phone to be delivered to the OP's address.
