  • Depending on what they have done they might of compromised your system even further.

Microsoft will never call or contact you.

I'd get straight onto your card company and report it as a fraudulent action as soon as possible and also get your computer checked out by professionals or backup all the data yourself and restore it back to factory settings.
  • Contact your card company by telephone not via the internet from your computer, and don't access any confidential or financial websites until you know that your PC is clear of any nasties.

You should make sure that your antivirus is up to dat and run a full scan and also download and run malwarebytes.
You can download the free version from here:
    http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free

It might be a good idea to post on the techie board explaining what happened and I'm sure that one of the regulars on there will be able to guide you through the full process to ensure that your PC hasn't been infected with anything, or if it has, how to make sure it's totaly cleaned up.

    Blimey.

I would have kept quiet about being mugged over the phone.

You are the first poster that I have seen who has actually fallen for this blindingly obvious of scams.

Can I have your telephone number?

The card company won't treat this as fraud, the OP willingly gave their card details.
I'm surprised too that anyone falls for this, i've been called loads of times by these scammers. They keep asking you to switch on your PC, mine is never off, when i tell them there are NO viruses on my laptop they argue !! I just keep them on the phone for as long as possible, one "lady" actually ended the call saying " ok then, see if i care " and slammed the phone down ! I quite look forward to the chats now when i realise it's them calling.

Ive been called a few times by these parasites.

I usually shut them up quickly by saying, if I had viruses on my computer it'd be a miracle cos I dont have a computer.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.
  • It would be nice if they call me, I get very bored and would enjoy there time.

Try and make a Linux USB boot, when I think I got a virus I boot from the Linux boot until I get round to formatting it and reinstalling windows.

I'm currently getting almost daily calls and have resorted to actually being very rude back to them as I can't take their thieving nasty lies anymore. So you can have my calls if you like :j

OP, these people are nasty, I was directed to some clips on youtube where some really techi people had strung them along for well over an hour. The one thing that did concern me though is that there was a suggestion that they occasionally download nasties onto computers, so do as suggested above and get over to the techie board and get them to talk you through a deep clean of your PC.

  • I am not sure if this is a hoax because surely the OP would know that Microsoft is all one word and so is beware

They phoned me about a week agao, I played along with them because I didn't have anything better to do with my time. They asked me to type in loads of things, click things.... I played along.

I then said to him "oh theres an error message popped up",
"what does it say" he replied
"Flip off and stop wasting my time"

    He hung up.......
