Hi Mountainofdebt, its definitely the Sea Scouts, he's only 10 so not old enough for cadets yet
(hopefully he will go on to cadets, mummy has her fingers crossed!)
I actually have no idea what the difference is between scouts and sea scouts!! but I am assured by my friend that there is a difference thank you very muchHe has come home and said he only needs a hat :eek: and a shirt so £61 if new, going to try my best for the second hand one on ebay and if I can get it for £20 - £25 then im happy
will just cough up the £20 for the shirt.
EDIT: DS did say that there are old hats at the hut you can have that have had many many owners and begged me not to make him have one of those ones so I think i'll make a deal with him, some weeding for a nearly new or new hatSPC No 002 SPC(3) £285/£250 (4) £519.84/£500 (5) £768.32/£500 (6) £911.30/£600 (7) £913.23/£600 (8) £1184.82/£750 (9) £2864.04/£750 (10) £3846.25/£1000 (11) £1779.72/£1000 (12) £1596.55/£1000 (13) £1534.70/£1000 (14) £775.60/£1000 (15) £700.20/£1000 (16) £2081.34/£1000 (17) £1691.15/£1000 (18) £25/£10000 -
But he can join the sea cadets now, at age 10 - he will just be a junior cadet. They wear the same uniform as the other cadets and are involved in all the events with the older ones.
Generally the older cadets are kept separate from the junior cadets and have their own programme.2014 Target;

oh noooo dont say that! I spent 3 years trying to get him into beavers/cubs/scouts! He has friends now at scouts as well and as my friend is a helper he keeps him in line so I wouldnt change him now. They do alot of canoeing at his sea scouts and as their hut is on an island they do camp outs with night fishing (which he is desperate to do). When he turns 12 I will ask him if he wants to change to cadets, but at the minute i'll leave him where he is.
To be honest he's had a lot of change in his life and he doesnt cope well with having the goal posts moved it really disrupts his behaviour (the behaviour is why we put him in scouts and martial arts in the first place), so while he's happy i'll just have to grudgingly pay the moneySPC No 002 SPC(3) £285/£250 (4) £519.84/£500 (5) £768.32/£500 (6) £911.30/£600 (7) £913.23/£600 (8) £1184.82/£750 (9) £2864.04/£750 (10) £3846.25/£1000 (11) £1779.72/£1000 (12) £1596.55/£1000 (13) £1534.70/£1000 (14) £775.60/£1000 (15) £700.20/£1000 (16) £2081.34/£1000 (17) £1691.15/£1000 (18) £25/£10000 -
. My neighbour said that everything for cadets is paid for/heavily subsidised by the armed forces.
Unfortunately this may be the case of the army/air cadets but not so for the sea cadets - apparently its all to do with something that happened donkey years ago.
In fairness though, the courses that are open to the sea cadets are excellent value for money, and are often held on working naval bases - Junior often came back from courses alot heavier than when he went, and a cooked breakfast has to match that eaten in a RN estabishment !2014 Target;

From personal experience I think Cadets as a whole are worth every penny, I've found once you have done with your initial outlay as well older cadets often sell uniform to the younger ones, not to mention the army and navy often do a trade in.
Where else could my DD have spent a week full board shooting, climbing, surfing and flying an aeroplane for £600 -
I have to say I used to work as a transport co-ordinator on our local RAF base, so I dealt with all the transport requirements for every member of the base. I used to arrange the transport for the Air Cadets when they came to stay and the things we used to ferry them to were brilliant. My nephew was an Air Cadet in Wales but joined too late to go to the air tattoo with his unit so came to stay with us and it was while the cadets were with us.
The Schanook came to the base and the cadet leader talked the pilot into giving the cadets a ride . . . ok i sweet talked him a bit and got my nephew on too
I absolutely love the RAF (would have joined too if I hadnt failed the medical) so yes secretly I would love him to join Air Cadets, but he is happy in sea scouts and thats really what matters. My other problem is that Air Cadets meet in the next town and I am banned from driving out of our town by the doctor due to medical problems. Sea Scouts is 2 minutes from my house, I can drop him off and my mother picks him up for me as she lives a town over the other waySPC No 002 SPC(3) £285/£250 (4) £519.84/£500 (5) £768.32/£500 (6) £911.30/£600 (7) £913.23/£600 (8) £1184.82/£750 (9) £2864.04/£750 (10) £3846.25/£1000 (11) £1779.72/£1000 (12) £1596.55/£1000 (13) £1534.70/£1000 (14) £775.60/£1000 (15) £700.20/£1000 (16) £2081.34/£1000 (17) £1691.15/£1000 (18) £25/£10000 -
Whatever makes him happy hun, any form of cadets (or scouts) is a wonderful thing to participate in. I've noticed a change in DD from simple things like being a little tidier and even ironing her own things. She's a more confident girl for it.0

Totally agree with this - my ony regret is that Junior didn't join earlier.
I remember Junior telling me something he'd done which was absolutely amazing and I asked him what his mates had thought of it and I felt sorry for him when he replied that he hadn't mentioned it to them as they would have no idea of what it was he had done.
Also it will give them the edge over their peers when they go for things like interviews as its something that they can talk about.2014 Target;

I left school at 16 and spent the next 22 years travelling the world at sea and being in two wars at the age of 21...it made me the man i am today and was the most amazing thing in life having been to over 60 different countries....i got a degree from the universaty of life that's for sure and i recommend anyone to go to sea and let it shape you.It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.0
