mac code rules?

Hi all
I am moving from Sky to BT (got an offer I can't turn down!) for my broadband.
I rang on Monday 12th September and got a mac code emailed to me right away.
I have ordered my new BT broadband and they have rang me saying my mac code is invalid and I have to call for sky for a new one.
I have rang sky and they tell me that the code I have expired in August and I have to wait 2 days (via phone) or 5 days (via snail mail) for a new one.
Is there not timescales BB providers have to abide by to give me a mac code?

They must supply it within 5 days.
Make sure you call Sky again once you've given BT then new MAC code and confirm the cancellation of your account.0
