in Water bills
Our water meter was recently read for the first time in a year, we moved into this house august last year. The last bill we had in June this year was £81 in credit.
it is a two bed house with two adults, the bill for the last three months is £87.39, using 26 cubic metres of water. I phoned up to query it as it seemed a bit high for three months. The woman on the phone would estimate we should use 49 cubic metres of water for the year but she also suggested that I should do my own reading if I wasn't happy, does anyone else do their own water reading, is it easy to do.
is that average/low/high usage for two adults for three months?
I pay £6.30 a week towards the bill.

I can't help as I don't have a water meter, but for a 2 bedroom house, 2 adults, 2 children, I pay £44.90 pm over 10 months (I think?).
So over 3 months it would be £112, so £87.39 for two adults doesn't sound too bad to me.0 -
I live in a 2 bedroom 2nd floor flat with my daughter until recently and pay £16 per month towards 2 water bills as Im on a water meter & I am in credit now.Incredibly my neighbours pay £42 per month as they can't be bothered changing over. But we don't have baths, we shower, the hot water tank is never on as it takes 8 pints of water to get to the kitchen tap, we use a travel kettle for hot drinks and we have a kettle for washing up.I had to cut down all my bills when I got made redundant.0

Just had my bill for past 6 months for one adult and a cat - 25 cu m. Which makes yours look spot on !0 -
The size of house isn't a factor if you are metered.
The average consumption in UK is somewhere between 50 to 55 cubic metres, per person, per year. So 26 Cu Mtrs for two in 3 months is spot on for average consumption.0 -
And comparing across regions is not meaningful, as regional prices vary so much.No free lunch, and no free laptop0

When I had a water Meter I got it installed because there was only one in the house Me and it was a lot cheaper with one person.
The average person in England and Wales uses 150 litres of water a day - imagine 264 pints of milk and that’s 150 litres of water. By 2020, with increasing population and housing growth the demand for water could increase by 5% - that’s 800 million extra litres of water a day.
Most of the water is used for washing and toilet flushing, but it also includes drinking, cooking, car washing and watering the garden. We use almost 50% more water than 25 years ago, partly because of the use of power showers and household appliances.
Using hot water in our homes contributes around 35 million tonnes of greenhouse gases a year (both water treatment processes and re-heating water in our homes contributes to these emissions). The average family uses 500 litres of water a day, that’s equal to 1.5 tonnes of greenhouse gases a year.
Future Water, the Government’s water strategy for England, outlines a vision for the average person to reduce the water they use by 20 litres per day (to 130 litres a day).
26 divede by 2 people = 12 cubic metres of water -26,000.00 litres per person over 3 months ie 90 days average person uses 150 litres per day. 26,000.00 divide by 150 = 173,34 per day. I suggest you become a water saver look on martins site

I'm lucky I'm not on a meter or I would pay significantly more than my monthly water charge. I live in a 2 bed cottage and pay £24.39 a month over 10 months, so not at all bad.0
