Rents essentially unchanged since august 2008.

    Not really. I've based it on the evidence that you've provided that rents have risen, albeit slowly, over the last 3 years. You've kindly also provided anecdotal evidence that your own rent has risen slowly over the same period. You have suggested that this is great news for renters. I've combined this with the observation that over the same time period mortgage costs have substantially decreased.

    If a slow increase in cost is a 'fairly good outcome' for someone who rents, it follows that a substantial decrease in cost for a mortgage-holder is an even better outcome.

    Of course It also follows that a substantial decrease in mortgage costs combined with a substantial decrease in house prices is an even better outcome. Doesn't it?

    What context would that be.
    Because a few posts ago it was in the context of the UK averages.
    Previously you stated my personal situation was at odds with the UK averages. Now you state that my personal situation is in line with the UK averages. Do please make up your mind.

    I don't actually recall stating that your personal situation was at odds with the UK averages. Perhaps you could refresh my memory and show me where I did so? Or are you fabricating an argument again?

    Just to be clear, the context here would be a comparison between rental costs with mortgage costs.

    Fabricating the argument it seems. Having checked back, it seems you were actually meal out of the fact that average rents have gone by the cost of a couple of packets of fags.
    No doubt why I was nonplussed.

    Excellent news indeed for renters. As everyone knows the official inflation figures are not correct, just look at how much utility bills are going up to see real inflation is way more than they claim. So rents are in fact falling in real terms along with house prices.
