So, while mortgage costs have dropped like a stone, renting has become increasingly expensive? This is indeed excellent news for those who have chosen to rent.

ALso Geener. More properties are being rented now because people cant sell. Alot of these are bigger houses. Whereas it used to be mainly flats/small houses. So its not surprising avergae rents have increasedI am not a financial expert, and the post above is merely my opinion.:j0

I'd agree with that B Blank - definitely more large houses to rent in Blackpool and has had the effect of slowing demand for the 2 bed terraced stock so seeing a lot lying empty for ages. Not sure rents have moved much in the last 3 years as I have a mortgage. Also nothing is selling at all - mine was on the market for 2 years and only 4 viewings despite being the bottom rung stock FTB type.
I think it's obvious to all that it really does depend where in the country you are......some are up, some are down.0 -
I've rented my 2 bed house since 1997 and am still paying the original rent £485/month.0

Excellent news for renters.
According to LSL property services rents have risen by only a few quid in the last few years.
Appying the Bullish principle of selecting two arbitrary points and ignoring everything thats happened inbetween, we can safely conclude the rents have not only stagnated, but seen significant real term falls.
Whilst it's true my rental income has only risen approx 4% in that period that's only half the picture! The other half on the story is that my mortgage cost has fallen by approx 84%! I reduced my tenants rent 4 years ago. We used to use a letting agency that charged 100 pounds a month.
When we cut out the middle man I reduced the rent by that.
Since then I have never and will never put the rent up. I like my tenant and we have a great relationship.

It is interesting isn't it mate. Gosh, it almost seems as if monthly fluctuations in average rental values for any one month have very little impact on the majority of renters in the uk.
As for me, my rent hasn't changed since 2009.

The only true thing you've said is that rental increases are an inevitable result of less people buying. Its just a shame that you consider it neccesary to constantly reitterate something so obvious.
And less people buying is of course good news for those FTBs sensible enough to have saved a decent deposit. Nothing much else to discuss on that one.
Do I consider real time stagnation in rental prices a victory in the housepricecrash argument? Actually I don't really consider it at all.
So Hamish, why don't you toddle off and form your RentPriceWatch.com forum. Its very clear that you'd rather talk about this than house prices. For obvious reasons.0
