Why not? Because it might just be a good idea to tell and show teenage girls that appearance isn't the be-all and end-all, and that character, personality, intergrity, brains and other qualities are more important?...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
and one afternoon having a fun photoshoot will forever have her thinking that "looks are the be-all and end-all". i dont think so somehow. get a grip.neverdespairgirl wrote: »Why not? I am a photographer also.
I've done both types of shoots- the white background, and location shoots (yes, I have operated out a shed in my back garden- it was very well kitted out with a variety of backdrops and importantly, no time limits on the shoot!)....
If done right, they are very sensitive to the age group. I've seen some awful images where I'd consider the poses or outfits inappropriate- but I've also seen some extremely beautiful shoots. It does depend on the photographer, and how relaxed they make the subject feel...
I've done some shoots in local castles, local gardens- tbh, I prefer them more than a studio shoot.
neverdespairgirl- It's not about looks, necessarily. I did modelling when I was around a Size 16- for a show on Sky about druidic culture in Ireland. That shoot was nothing aimed at making me look good- it was simply getting the picture out that we needed to present to viewers, and we had no models.
Antoninus- correct in everything I've read so far. It isn't just about the photos, it's about the experience.0 -

So young women should not be allowed to dress up, put on a bit of make up and have a photo taken?
Don't be silly.0 -

What shall we ban young children from dressing up in mummys clothes and shoes and make up now too.0 -
All of those things are important, but don't discount the importance of the way we think we look.neverdespairgirl wrote: »Why not? People can be really hung up over the way they look. It can cause people to be depressed and anxious. I see this all the time, we constantly have the most beautiful people walk through the door who say that they don't like the way they look, they aren't photogenic, and that they hate having their photo taken. Girls aged under about 14 generally aren't affected by this, but many, many girls will start to think like this within a few years. There's a lot of pressure on girls to look attractive, and if they think that they fall short of society's expectations, that's a very bad thing.
By giving someone a sensitive makeover and a photoshoot, you can really give them a confidence boost. It helps people to get a more realistic idea of what beauty is, and how good they really look.
I don't think that's the same as telling someone that beauty is all that matters, and that personality is out the window. It just gives people a bit more confidence, which hopefully they will carry with them as they get older.0
