My dd1 is 13 yrs old and desparate to have one of those professional photo's where they do your hair and makeup and make you look beautiful and then take a photo.
Does anyone know anywhere that does this and if so do they know anyone whose teenager has had this done? It would make a brill xmas present (unless it's too expensive).
(We are in the leicester area)

Keep a look put at things liek KGB Deals, Groupon, Living Social ect - I bought one from them for £7 whcih included an hour make over and champagne aswell as a full days photo shoot! ... I also got a free photo (albeit small!) I also purchased another 3 photos which was £50 so it was pretty expensive for buying the photos but you can ALWAYS get them to bring their prices down - She'll love it!:kisses2: I Love my Soldier :kisses2:0

Thirteen years old? Do you think that it's an appropriate present for one so young? You do know that these scams cost a couple of hundred, minimum?0

I won one once, when I was about 12 or 13.
It sooooo wasn't how I expected it to be, but was still quite fun. They are expensive though, and the photos even more so (shockingly expensive) and they pile on the pressure to buy them too.
Plus, they put soooo much make up on me, I looked about 30. And you had to take in your own clothes, so I didn't really feel like it was a makeover. I was expecting, and hoping, for them to have a range of fancy clothes I could try on and wear, but they didn't. It was just someone who did my make up and took some photos. I'll be honest, I didn't like the pictures anyway.
I'm sorry I couldn't be more positive.February wins: Theatre tickets0 -
I actually think this is a brilliant idea. I would love this for my 13 year old who is convinced that she isn't really that pretty. I know my child and I think something like this would boost her confidence. Sorry I can't help with any recommendations, I'm not in your area but good luck!0

I got this as a 16th birthday present for both my daughters. They both loved it and I have the photos to keep forever. The older one knew she was gorgeous, so it was something she'd wanted. The younger was really shy and always believed she was in her sister's shadow. It really brought out another side to her and she ended up doing quite a bit of modelling (not quite Kate Moss, more Debenham's on a Saturday afternoon!)
Went to different places for each and both did a great job. Make up really natural and the photos are really fun - jumping against white backgrounds so they look mid-air, lying on floor with hair spread out so it looks like they've had a fright, pulling faces. Sadly, neither girls are interested in the photos now because they think they look too young :rotfl:) Both wore their own clothes - which they will regret seriously once their own kids see them in 20 years time. :rotfl::rotfl:
You do get a very hard sell to buy more than the agreed package but it was an easy choice for me because I only had the money and nothing more. I think it was about £250 for each daughter. To buy the collage I really wanted would have been about £1500
BTW, gorgeous daughter is now a student with her lovely blonde curls shaved off, numerous tattoos and piercings - it is so lovely to have a reminder of what she used to look like!0 -
I've always been very suspicious of these sorts of deals where you end up having to pick a few photos out of a set because you cant afford them all. Instead through this site I found the name of a photographer who charges a fixed price for a shoot and you get all the photos on a CD.
The advantage aside from price, is you get all the photos so you dont have to agonise over which to choose. You can upload them to Facebook too since he gives you the copyright so you can share them. And obviously print them out if you so want to.
The disadvantage is he doesn't edit them for you. Not a problem for me since i'm pretty handy with photoshop. So there might be a few where you need to correct the contrast or needs to be cropped, touched up etc.
He's in Rotherham which is a fair trek for you but not the end of the world. if you are interested, PM me & I will send you details of his website. (I'm not linked in anyway except as a satisfied customer)0 -
i`d ask around at local independant photographers, i know they do these sort of photos and probably a lot cheaper too.0

Evvery other week my daughter and at least one of her friends "wins" a prize of a makeover and photosession. Even I've won one.
The catch is, of course, that the photographs can cost hundreds of pounds. (One girl paid three hundred pounds!)
You would be better off saving your money, getting a make-up artist from a local beauty salon to do the makeover and getting some quotes from a local photographer.0 -
Makeovers are extremely popular gifts for girls of your daughter's age. I run a photography business, and we do loads of work like this for girls aged 12-15. Actually, our most popular shoots at the moment are for birthday party shoots, where the girl beings her friends and they all have a shoot together (either with or without the makeover aspect).
Few tips:
A good shoot probably won't be cheap. Probably budget at least £150. From my studio, this would get you an hour photoshoot, professional hair and makeup, and five 7x5 prints. If it costs a lot less than this, satisfy yourself with the quality of their work before booking - many studio photographers are really not very good.
Full-resolution DVDs are often a good buy, but keep in mind that they generally will not be retouched. The prints that the photographer provides will (if he or she is any good) generally be much better than the photos you could print yourself from the CD. We charge £350 for a full resolution CD, and consider that a fair price for the quality we provide. We have discretion to discount this a bit, and sometimes include it very cheaply if people buy a lot of prints.
Don't use flashy studios who seem too cheap, or offer too much for too little (e.g. whole day makeovers for a nominal sum) - they will try to charge ridiculous money for prints.
Haggle a little bit with the photographer on price. Do this before you book the shoot - go and talk to them in person if possible (that way you can also make sure they don't operate from a shed in their garden). Some will give you a very good package deal if you pre-purchase the prints or a CD.
Hope that helps a bit.0 -
