I'm an existing customer and am looking to move to Sky from TalkTalk due to bad service (have been with them since the start) I'm not under contract to TalkTalk.

If I join Sky Lite I have to pay a £60 setup.
If I join unlimited its £7.50 more a month with three months free but setup is free saving £60.

Am I working this out right, have I missed anything?

£60 would cover the £7.50 for 8 months plus the 3 months free (equivalent of 11 months) means it would only cost me £7.50 more for unlimited for 12 months rather than 12 months of lite

EDIT>>

Plus I get £70 cashback for unlimited but only £10 for lite (quidco) so over the 12 months £62.50 better off with unlimited then cancel the ulimited and drop down to lite after 12 months

Can this be right, am I getting something very wrong?

if you are on a TT LLU line then you may not be able to go direct to a Sky LLU service anyway-have you checked?
LLU to LLU transfers are rarely possible (though there are reports that Sky have sometimes been able to do them).
If the Lite package is still a miserly 2GB per month, then that's unlikely to be adequate for most people.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

I had a feeling that was the case which is why I have not bothered before.

I checked my number and it said it was not compatible and asked me to use the address checker, when I did that it said all was OK and offered my all the packages.

    Bit confused now.

Address checker is for a new line-it just checks that your address appears on the BT database.
You appear to have a TT LLU line. Dial 17070, it should read your no. back and then give you a series of numbered options. No options means it's not a BT line any more. In which case speak to Sky first before ordering.
If not you'll have to take your line rental back to BT for 12m on a return to donor.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

    I am TT LLU.

I have just used Skys switching guide which asks:
    Phone number
    Address
    Who your current supplier is

The checker says I can switch from TT in 5-6 weeks with existing number or 2-3 weeks with new number.

They say "No matter who you are switching from - see our simple step-by-step"

    The guide is here: http://switching.sky.com/

I have also just called Sky and they have said it is no problem.

There is an aditional line activation fee off £99 if going to lite and £39 if going to unlimited.

So again its looking like the unlimited will keep my costs down for the first 12 months.

    EDIT>>

This also gives good info on special LLU mac codes and swapping from one LLU to another.

Given the timescale, what you are apparently being quoted for is a new line provision, with your old number transfered to that. That also explains the high activation fee.A normal broadband migration takes no more than 10-14 days.

Thanks I think you right but at least these LLU providers are starting to make it simple to switch.

And I have seen Topcashback offer £111.10 which will cover all costs and even the extra or unlimited for the 12 months.

But you are not then switching, you're starting a service on a new line, and paying a hefty premium accordingly.

Its only going to cast £39 which will more than be covered by the cashback.

    Edit

    These are my calculation:

both lite and unlimited will cost £12.25 a month on a 12 month contract.

    On top of that:

    Unlimited costs:
    12 x £7.50 less 3 months free (9x£7.50) = £67.50
    No setup fee on Unlimited
    line activation £39
    Cashback £111.10
Total = £4.60 in my pocket

    Lite costs:
    No Monthly extra costs
    Setup Fee £60
    Line Activation £99
    Cashback £10.10
Total = £148.90 loss to me

    I have just read this:

    http://helpforum.sky.com/t5/Sky-Talk-Technical/LOST-TELEPHONE-NUMBER-WHEN-SWITCHING-FROM-TALKTALK-TO-SKY/td-p/39511

I can't risk the loss of my number and on that basis may be stuck with TT.
