Seller making me pay for wrong postage price from Royal Mail

I bought an item off ebay for £2.99 (including the 40p P&P) I got a card from the Royal Mail through the post saying the seller had not paided the correct postage and now I had to pay £1.22 to pick up the item from the sorting office. I'm refusing outright to pay for that. I paid for the item including postage at the time.
Can I ask for the seller to pay the £1.22 or can I ask for the Royal Mail to return to sender, and ask for a full refund.
Anyone had this, or anyone know what I should do?

I'd contact the seller, telling them that RM have the item & there's now a charge of £1.22 to pay, ask them to gift payment that amount to you. If they don't then leave it at nthe delivery office & claim INR.0

I'm with Hermum, most sellers would be mortified to think they had paid the incorrect postage and would be happy to get the payment to you immediately as a gift. If not then again as per Hermum, open an INR claim.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. This fee can be paid online

I would send this info to the seller and leave it to them. If they don't pay it will eventually be returned to them. If you don't receive it in a few days or the seller says they are not going to pay open an INR claim.0 -
are you sure it is that item?0

A surcharge of £1.22 being requested will mean it's been underpaid by 22p and RM have added a £1 handling fee.
However, I agree with custardy. How do you know it's the item? 22p is the difference between a normal second class stamp and a large letter second class stamp so the item RM are holding could be anything. It's very common for greetings cards to be sent as a normal letter when they are actually large letters.0 -
As a seller I would gladly cover the cost you have to pay but before you have collected the item and sent a scan of the receipt. Personally I would go and get the parcel, pay the money and ask the seller for it as a gift via Paypal explaining you are happy to send a pic of the parcel and/or receipt for clarification and understand it's a mistake at the Post Office for not putting enough stamps on.
Most sellers will say sorry and pay, if they don't the neg you leave them will cost them more than 1.22.In the game of chess you can never let your adversary see your pieces0 -
I have sorted this out of the seller, who has refunded me £1.22 for this.Total Debt: £1363.85

Good result and just goes to show that most sellers know what 'the right thing to do ' is.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.
