Barclays £50 off!!!!!!!!!!!!! I GOT IT NOW

Very quickly I insured my car with Barclays over the phone and accepted the £50 off deal, paid by debit card, no probs - done I thought
Then the paper work arrives and they asked for proof of my quote from Norwich, I sent them what I had which was just the quote price but then they tell me that will not do and will not give the £50 off. They want the full schedule showing exactly what was in the policy, I do not have these documents.
I'm quite annoyed at this I wasn't conning them but the most annoying part is that there was no mention of needing written proof when I took out the policy over the phone.
I am now arguing with them and have received a letter today askking for an extra £58.99.

It sounds like you weren't given the facts when you made the call. Have you tried asking Norwich for the paperwork they require? Have you looked around to see if you can switch insurers without losing any money?
When I enquired about a Barclays policy they told me what I needed to be able to claim the £50 and my previous insurer was happy to send out what was required, but we ended up going with a better deal somewhere else.May all your dots fall silently to the ground.0 -

Tha's what's causing me to be annoyed - they didn't tell me.
The other thing is they now want to add £58.99 not just the £50 I'm assuming the extra £8.99 is an administrative fee. I have banked both personal and business with Barclays for 35 years and fell like I've been conned and they are not looking at things reasonably but just enforcing a rule.
I have written them a letter now and will also ring them on Monday and fight or switch.
I thought that I would lose a lot switching so soon.Women and cats will do as they please and men and dogs should get used to it.;)

I don't see that you have a point, here.
It's obvious that they need proof that you had a comparable quote, to qualify for the £50 rebate.
A piece of paper with your name and address saying "it's gonna cos you £x" doesn't prove you've given them the same information.0 -
I would have expected to provide written proof.
They do have a 14 day cool off period. So cancel your policy and go elsewhere!"The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts."

I've never had a quote from my current insurers that don't have the details. Check through what you got from them or maybe phone and see if they'll send it to you again?OD Girls On TourBarcelona 2008 - Dublin 20090

Hi Marky I see your point too but it's not obvious to me as the guy on the phone did not mention 'proof' at all he was mainly interested in selling me the deal. He asked me what my quote was and worked from there but did not mention proof at all. I had the documents at that point but then threw them out as I insured with Barclays. I think the part I sent them was just a reminder with the price of renewal on but they want the details i.e fully comp etc.

There's a difference between an insurer quoting you a competitive price, based on what you tell them your renewal quote is - in which case, you are never going to be asked to prove it - and an insurer quoting a price and saying they will give you £50 in cash if your current insurer's price is better - in which case, they are obviously going to require proper evidence.
I think you've thrown away £50 by throwing away your renewal documents.0 -
Do agree that many people would expect to provide proof BUT it is entirely Barclay's responsibility to mention that proof is required AND specify what type of proof they require. If they did not then I think that it is unfair and is not Treating Customers Fairly (they must under FSA regulations and financial promotion guidelines). Ask if they would normally advise the client what proof is required and if yes, then ask for them to review the recorded conversation. If they didn't for you then they should pay the money.
All this may take time, which means you have probably gone past any cooling off period. I say it's worth persuing as you have little to lose.0
