hiya,
I have a lovely new MR 6.5lt slow cooker. Last night we had the most delicious, tender, pork and bean hotpot and tonight I fancy stovies. I know how to make them on the cooker but wondered if anyone has made them in the slow cooker??
I think i'll give it a try and I will post how they turn out, however any advice for me before, during or after will be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance for any advice,

thats a great idea doing stovies in the slow cooker, when i make them in a pan i brown the onions first, might be an idea to do that before layering up in the slow cooker, lets know how it turns out0

Sorry but what are stovies?0

Stovies is a delicious Scottish dish - cornbeef, onions and potato all mushed up together.
Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
That might have to be dinner tonight.
Pinkpinkfizz - could you let us know how doing them in the SC goes? Sounds like a cunning plan to me.

Put dumplings in with the beef stew we had for lunch, a bit of an experiment really but they were delicious. Turned the sc up high for the last hour and dropped the dumplings in.
Anyone else done tried this.0 -
Oh yum, might have to try these.
I do dumplings in mine, they are lovely, especially with the beef stew I made. I usually turn it up onto high and depending on dumpling size cook in about 30 minutes. One day I might be more organised...........

ooh tell me how the stovies get on
Mum used to make them with sausages sometimes instead of corned beef. I like the watery type. I know everyone has their preference.
Thinking of them now - with a dollop of brown sauce mmmmmm"You can't get a cup of tea big enough or a book long enough to suit me." - C.S. Lewis0 -
My house smells so yummy...
I cooked 2 medium onions, 1 packet of streaky bacon in a little olive oil until they just started to brown. put that into the bottom of the slow cooker then put in potato slices (about 1cm thick slices) until it was 3/4 way up the dish. I then put cubed corned beef on the top and added 2 litres (edit STOP, CHANGE TO 1 llitre, this was too much stock edit) of chicken stock, sprinkle lo-salt and a few grinds of black pepper... its set to high.
I think I may have added too much liquid and so might end up having to drain some off at the end (don't want soup!) and I have another tin of corned beef that I can chop up if I dont think it has enough once its mixed... trial and error on the first go..
Smells delicious... oatcakes lined up waiting for tea!! lol :rotfl:pinkpinkfizz

sounds like too much stock, doing them in the pan you need minimum water, think i would have layered the sliced raw potato, fried onion and corn beef, i dont use bacon, and small amount of stock, depending on how full the slow cooker is0

That's what I mean about preferences - we always had really watery soupy stovies. Maybe it's a Fife thing. Mum is Inverkeithing born and bred lol.
