Amazon seller faulty goods query

Options
I purchased a handbag (new) from a seller on Amazon. I used the item yesterday for the first time and the magnetic clasp kept popping open. When I looked at it the disc that surrounds the nubbin is bent which means that the closure is weak, when a purse is put into the bag this makes the gap more pronounced so the clasp opens itself.

I have e-mailed the seller and had no response. On looking at their returns policy it says that I will have to pay to return the goods and forefeit £3 of the price I paid as I had free shipping. I thought that if goods were faulty the seller was responsible for the shipping costs. I really don't want to be out of pocket £6 and have nothing to show for this. I paid for the goods on an Amazon credit card.

Any wise advice for me?

Keep it friendly and a good seller should repay your return postage costs (if they agree item is faulty). You can threaten neg feedback etc later.

But the seller can not refund anymore thn you paid so he will need your PayPal details (or similar) to refund the balance.
  • Thanks. I have had a bit of to-ing and fro-ing. I sent an initial message stating the item was faulty. They apologised and offered to send a new item when they came into stock this week along with a pre-paid envelope to return the faulty one. They have since advised me they can no longer get the item and have agreed to send me a pre-paid return bag and a full refund will be given when they get it back. If all goes well I will give them positive feedback and use again.

Although they seem to have good service - May be worth while you spending a few extra pence and getting a trackable service so they can't say that they did not receive it back?
