Ages ago someone gave me the recipe for a salad dressing she had been given by an old Majorcan lady. I used the recipe for years but have lost it now and cannot remember it correctly.

The ingredients are: White wine vinegar (forgot how much), olive oli (how much), two fat cloves of garlic, crushed, 1/4 teaspoon of dry mustard powder, teaspoon of sugar, salt and pepper to taste.

Put it all in a screw top jar and shake - keeps well in the fridge for a few days

If anyone has this recipe or something near it I would greatly appreciate it. Basicially, I don't know what the ratio of oil to vinegar should be in dressings.

Once I get the recipe right I'll post it because it is just delish:j

Does anyone know what the oil/vinegar ratio should be in a salad dressing? I could probably work it out from there.

    Thanks all.

Yeah, that's a pretty normal ratio.

Back home in France, we double the oil amount to the vinegar, so 3 spoons of vinegar/ 6 of oil.
Alway worked out for me :)

I agree with Daisie, that is how i make my salad dressing, if the ratio is off just taste and keep adding either oil, if it is too sharp, or more vinegar if it is too oily!
Ooh i love a good homemade dressing.

Thank you all. This one is particularly yummy, and it makes really nice potato salad with warm potatoes.

    Hi

Has anyone got any nice salad dressing recipes?

I am not keen on a lot of the shop bought ones as they seem to taste a bit sugary and artificial to me

    Thanks

    Hi pink,

Its not a recipe as such, I just keep adding stuff till it tastes good, but I generally use

    Olive oil
    Balsamic vineger
    Honey
    wholegrain mustard.
    Soy sauce,

sometimes a bit of finely diced garlic, and salt and pepper, start off with a little oil and vinegar and add the rest to your taste. Give it a good mix, and don't pour it on the salad untill you are ready to serve it.
