HI,
MY car (c180)broke down on 3rd sep. (transmission problem..could not put into gears) as I had AA breakdown cover so AA took my car to mercedes service centre. I have been told by service manager that clutch slave cylinder and cluch needs to be changed due to contamination and it is going to cost me £1383. I agreed for repair cost and mercedes ordered part and it took 5 days to get parts and fix it properly. I got a phone call that car is ready and I went to mercedes service center to pick my car on 9th September. Payment of £1383 has been made but when I started the engine on I noticed that engine management light was litting which was telling me that there was something wrong. I thought there is no engine oil in the engine and I spoke to service manager about that and my car has been taken again to repair room to check whats wrong with it. After 10 minutes service manager told me that there is problem with O2 sensor and needs to be replaced. I told service manager that when car had been brought to service centre there was no problem with its engine and I am not happy with the this. Manager told me that car has not been driven anywhere so this problem should have been there already but I was 100% sure there was not such a problem before. I rang AA to confirm milage of the car when car had been brought into service station which was 5 miles less than what I could see on the speedometer. It means car had been driven 5 miles since It was at service station. I spoke to manager about this and she confirmed that car had been taken on test drive after it was fixed.
so O2 sensor has been changed and I have been charged another £268 (including service/labour) which I really did not want to pay. I checked my invoice..there was a remarks on the invoice left by service manager " customer complaints of oil leak and vehicle is not engaging please investigate" I read this and ask service manager about it that I have never complained about oil leak and there was no oil leak but I have been told that AA guy told Mercedes that there was an oil leak. I contacted AA but AA confirmed that their job is to pick the vehicle and drop it to service station and they are not authorise to make any statement like that.
I drove my car back home about 6 o'clock and about 8 o' clock I left home for store to buy some stuff but again same problem with the car..."transmission problem visit workshop". as it was night time I could not notice any oil leak but in the morning time I could clearly see there was an oil leak under the car. I rang AA again on same night and next morning about 9.20am car had been taken to mercedes service centre again. Before AA guy left I told him about the car that I have already spent about £1400 and very stressed about this. I told him about the oil leak and he could clearly see the oil under the car. I told him that my car had been taken for repair last week as well and there was no oil leak but AA guy who picked my car told Mercedes that there was an oil leak ..can you get me some information about who picked my car last week. He tried AA head quarter I suppose but he was told that the guy who picked my car last week was having a off that morning.
I went to mercedes Monday morning (12th Sept.) and spoke to service manager about oil leak and tried to find out what made the oil leak but she denied any oil leak and accused me of lying. I clearly showed AA guy that there was a thick fluid underneath the car but the service manager told me that AA guy told mercedes that there was no trail of oil but my logic was why would you find a trail when all the oil was leaked overnight. Service manager was not ready to accept that there was any oil leak and told me the oil could be from another vehicle.
ok..fine...I came back home and got a call from mercedes to say the vehicle will be ready tomorrow as they r going to change hydraulic pump in gear box when I told service manager that why did they changed cluch and clutch slave cylinder if problem was with hydraulic pump she said that I am not being charged but they r charging AA directly and AA will cover the cost of £500. I was not happy about their decision as I still feel I was being charged again.I went to mercedes to pick the car as i noticed another remarks on the invoice "Vehicle has lost all the transmission oil stood on drive (AA confirmed no drive trail of oil)"..I was very angry with this as I had argument with service manager yesterday about this issue and she was denying any oil leak and accusing me of lying and now she is leaving remarks on the invoice about oil leak. I could not speak to manager about it as she was finished work by that time. I eventaully picked my car up and started to drive home. On the way I noticed smoke coming off my engine so I pulled over and opened up the bonet only to find they had left the fuse box cover (outer cover to drain rain water off) loose in the bonnet and it was melted and stuck all over my engine. I cant believe how careless they have been and what a poor service they have provided. My car could have caught fire. I came back inside the car and car was full of smoke. I rang mercedes again and as it was already 6 o'clock so I have been told to come in the morning.
I went to Mercedes next morning and spoke to Mercedes General manager about everything happened to me and told him that I feel bit ripped off as mercedes should have diagnosed the problem properly and rectified it accordingly instead changing so many part and charging me so much money. Mercedes general manager told me that as he is not a technical guy and service general manager is away till afternoon he will speak to him and try to rectify this issue. I have been assured that before 5o' clock I will get a phone call from Mercedes. It has been 2 days now I still did not recieve any phone call from mercedes.
Friends.. I am looking for your valuable suggestions about what should I do ..should I consult any lawyer and go to consumer court or what should I do ???? Please help.....
Thanks

Mr. DCFC79...I think being a senior member on this website you should understand when someone says that he/she is new to these thread things then it means he/she knows little about these websites.. Why I am on here because I believe this website helps people who needs help in any kind of matter..so does it mean that he/she needs to learn that how to use this website 100% and then they can get any help... And I am very sorry to say that users like yourself are discouraging common man to use this website.
You Have wasted your precious time and words to prove your point..which you could have used to suggest me right solution to my problem...
Why I started new thread because I believe my problem more related to "consumers rights" now so I started a new thread in that section...

Your response here to posts is the same issue with your car.
Chill out.
Right to go back to your car issue:I have been told by service manager that clutch slave cylinder and cluch needs to be changed due to contamination and it is going to cost me £1383.
Did they specifically state that contamination was causing your problem? It sounds like they could attribute it, but your current problem aside this work still needed to be done.I thought there is no engine oil in the engine and I spoke to service manager about that and my car has been taken again to repair room to check whats wrong with it.
You're clearly not a qualified mercedes engineer (otherwise you would have done the work yourself) so how you concluded on start up there was no oil seems a little odd.I told service manager that when car had been brought to service centre there was no problem with its engine and I am not happy with the this.
Educated guess or pure guess? If you knew it wasn't anything to do with the engine then surely the AA guy would have siad the same?but I was 100% sure there was not such a problem before.
I have a two year old car outside right now, I couldn't be 100% there are no faults with it. Its a car, faults can appear from anywhere - I recall my father, he went on holiday, left the car on the drive, came home, car dead, Jaguar towed it to the garage, Squirrel had ate wiring loom - ahhh so that whole idea of the problem wasn't there when I left the car, it can't be my fault theory goes flying out the windows with the pigs...I rang AA to confirm milage of the car when car had been brought into service station which was 5 miles less than what I could see on the speedometer. It means car had been driven 5 miles since It was at service station.
I spoke to manager about this and she confirmed that car had been taken on test drive after it was fixed.
Not unusual for a mainstream dealer, in fact, thank your lucky stars they didnt charge you the labour for doing it (some brands do!)told service manager that why did they changed cluch and clutch slave cylinder if problem was with hydraulic pump she said that I am not being charged but they r charging AA directly and AA will cover the cost of £500.
They changed the parts they did because of contamination, there was an issue with those parts, it sometimes happen that fitting of those parts does not resolve the apparent fault, but an underlying one.
Also do not buy the whole idea of AA paying bill, all they were responsible for was delivering your car to the garage, unless the AA broke it, they're not liable...in any way.On the way I noticed smoke coming off my engine so I pulled over and opened up the bonet only to find they had left the fuse box cover (outer cover to drain rain water off) loose in the bonnet and it was melted and stuck all over my engine.
These things happen, no real biggie, they'll have to replace the cover FOC if responsiblity is accepted or proven. My car could have caught fire.
OMG BBQ THINK OF THE CHILDREN!!!111!!!
Coulda, woulda, shoulda.
It didn't happen...no issue here.I went to Mercedes next morning and spoke to Mercedes General manager about everything happened to me and told him that I feel bit ripped off as mercedes should have diagnosed the problem properly and rectified it accordingly instead changing so many part and charging me so much money.
Mercedes general manager told me that as he is not a technical guy and service general manager is away till afternoon he will speak to him and try to rectify this issue.
Indeed he is right, it is the service manager followed by the dealer principle you should deal with.
I would call the service manager with whom you have dealt and ask for a follow up to the issue.
You don't say how old the car is, so it is presumed to be out of warranty period and out of reasonable usage guidlines of the SOGA in the above comments.
