Suspended from eBay for no apparent reason

  • Unless you really know what you are doing when opening another account. Dont even try. As others have said eBay have spent millions on security and their computers will find links in time, even through a photo you may have listed before. It does sound like your new post code may be the problem or a seller or buyer, whom you done a lot of business with. If they were banned a link could be made with frequent sales. Just keep trying to appeal it and get back on in your own name. This is more common than you think.
I will continue with the appeal process and see how it goes.

It's now five days since I faxed over my official documents. The people on the phone and live chat will not even tell me which department is dealing with my account.

I honestly cannot put into words how astonished I am that they would treat such a good customer so badly. Their security systems, despite having cost millions, appear to be rather seriously flawed, if my experience is anything to go by.
  • I had a similar email stating my account had been suspended but it was a scam to try and get my details.
    :money:
    Cashback to date: £521
 Responsible Gambling: +£910 Profit
Latest Win: £120 on X Factor _party_
Latest Loss: £13 on Arsenal to beat Totenham
  • Just as a quick follow-up - I'm now back on eBay. In the end, it took an email to the CEO of eBay to get my account reinstated, but I got there in the end.

That'll be a very stupid thing to do. They will link it. Maybe not immediatly but at some point your details will link. As you can only have one paypal account in all liklihood that would be the first linking point. When they do close you down it will be at the most inconvenient time.

This has worked for years for me on Amazon, as long as you use entirely new details for everything (bank account, name, credit card, IP address, MAC address...) then it should be fine. As good as eBay's security maybe, it really isn't as good as Amazon's.

I have things in place which make it easy to work with but I would certainly not recommend this unless you are entirely desperate as it can be very hard work at times.

    I have 2 Paypal accounts too :)

Incidentally, my account was not closed for any wrong doing on my part. It was similar to above, clearly a mistake but Amazon couldn't care less.

...even through a photo you may have listed before...

    I really REALLY doubt this.

EDIT - My old (selling) account was banned, so I just kept using my buying account for everything. A risk I know, but it's been 4 years and nothings happened (although my old account is now unbanned)

Well it's kinda true. If you use a picture that's hosted in the same place as a previous listing so has same web address.
Or if you use the same picture hosting service you used on an old ebay account i.e free web hosting space that some ISP's provide which will have a unique web address.

    how wrong you are

I have 1 Personal Paypal Account and 3 Business Paypal Accounts (linked to my separate businesses).
This is true, I know many people with 2 or more paypal accounts, it goes on email addresses! Businesses can have numerous paypal accounts!
Although saying this I have no idea if it's ok or not?? I have 1 account only and have had it 7 years now!
Need to get rid of my Yankee Candle Habit, Not very money saving of me :)

You'd be surprised. Using the same skus or having 'similar listings' is something they track too. As long as you know their system, there is always a way around if.
  • I think its good the OP is back up and running, but this is the time you should start to think of a back up ebay account. On the links, I think it has to be pointed out that you are at risk more if you lose an account or a close buyer/seller has theirs closed. The system will then be looking for the links to banned or closed accounts.
Secret of ebay is never think you are 100% safe as people have been ruined over losing their accounts through no fault of their own.
Always use a low value credit card and always keep your paypal and bank account linked to it low.At least theres a happy ending to this post.

I don't quite follow your post- but I would remind users that you cannot use a second account if you get suspended on another as I think you might be suggesting that in your first sentence?
