If the worst comes to the worst, I'll set-up an alternative account, only access it via a VPN tunnel, and link it to a different name and address. But it does absolutely infuriate me. How can a company treat valuable customers so badly? God knows how many tens of thousands of pounds I've spent there over the last decade!

    Thanks everyone for the advice.
No, don't, your personal details will be linked with your suspended one and since you need to be verified before you can sell you will find it difficult to get away with it.

Although you feel aggrieved now, just calm down and sort it out properly. You will get absolutely nowhere by getting angry like this and eBay have the right to say who can or cannot sell on their site, just like you have the right to say who can and cannot come into your house.

That'll be a very stupid thing to do. They will link it. Maybe not immediatly but at some point your details will link. As you can only have one paypal account in all liklihood that would be the first linking point. When they do close you down it will be at the most inconvenient time.

  • Unless you really know what you are doing when opening another account. Dont even try. As others have said eBay have spent millions on security and their computers will find links in time, even through a photo you may have listed before. It does sound like your new post code may be the problem or a seller or buyer, whom you done a lot of business with. If they were banned a link could be made with frequent sales. Just keep trying to appeal it and get back on in your own name. This is more common than you think.

Another problem that you may not have thought of, you moved about a year ago, who lived in your house before you, they may have had a suspended account and ebay have linked the post code to this account.
this happened to my brother 3 years ago when he moved. once he changed his address details with ebay and paypal within days his account was suspended and when he asked why it was die to a suspended account he had 3 months earlier at that address, he had to provide ebay with official documents that he had just moved in before they unsuspended his account, this took 3 months for ebay to sort this out.

Be careful who you are accusing of being wrong- when it is actually you:

Can I have more than one PayPal account?

Question : Answer : Under the terms of the PayPal User Agreement, customers may only hold one Personal account and either one Premier or one Business account.

You can add multiple eBay User IDs, email addresses or funding sources to each of your accounts, however the same information cannot be registered with more than one account at any one time.

As Soolin. How wrong are you. Just because you have then doesnt mean thats within their terms and conditions (which i suggest you read). There have been numerous cases of people going on for years with multiple Paypal accounts then Paypal twig on close them all and hold funds for 6 months. You are then unable to have a Paypal account. If i was you i would start closing some accounts. Paypal will twig on eventually normally at the most in convenient time.

Doesn't mean you won't wake up one day and find all your accounts suspended. :D Although, personally - i can't see why a seperate paypal account for each seperate business should be a problem.

Back to the OP and Ebay are just one of them companies who don't deserve custom - as they treat their members appaulingly and with contempt.

Your not the first to have their account suspended without the decency of an explanation - and you won't be the last.

As paypal CS are reknowned for no knowing their own rules do you really want to risk your business on the say so of someone on the phone when it goes against what is written in the user agreement?

There was a case a couple of years back on the community boards where a seller had multiple paypal accounts after 6 years they were all frozen for 6 months with thousands of pounds in. The seller also had thousands of pounds of stock he couldn't sell as he couldn't trade on ebay without paypal.

You may not believe anyone but its written in the user agreement and just because nothing has happened so far doesn't mean it wont. I've never been hit by a bus doesn't mean I never will.
