Marks & Spencer interview

Options
Hello,
I hope some one can help me,
I just need up to date info on the marks & spencer interview process.
I really do suck at interviews, get really nervous, especially if its something i really want, anyway i have been out of work for over a year and have totally lost confidance in my job hunting skills :(
this is a temp part time xmas role and very local. I have done office based jobs for 30 years, last time i worked in retail, over 30 years ago, this did include xmas period at marks and sparks, in the same store i have applied for.

I did the online assessment stuff and passed and have now been invited for an interview at local jobcentre

I have searched forum and have read about the role play,
has anyone had a recent interview, do they still do this?
do they ask interview question?

  • Its a role play, best advice is to read, read, and read again the instructions they give you. All the info you need is right there. So if you mess up it'll be because you did'nt read the senario completly. And relax theres no hidden or trick questions, its simply a measurement of your communication skills really.

    Thanks,
    that does seems easy enough,

I had one yesterday and passed! [woo!]

The role play was the main feature. They seem to have a lot of different scenarios but just make sure you consider all of the options open to the customer.

They also asked me a few questions which the manager said was a new thing that they do. I don't recall any of them being about specific past experiences - they were more just generally about what you do now/a past work experience and why you want to work at M&S. It was pretty straightforward and there were no trick questions.

the telephone interview ia a no brainer, at in person interview you will get a role play scenario..usually with regard to helping a food customer..

Think about your own experience as a customer. have you ever experienced anyone giving really good customer service / someone who went above and beyond their job?Go in M&S and watch their staff and customer service desk ppl.CS is something M&S are HOT on.Mind you so are Debenhams at interviews but have to sya it leaves a lot to be desired from my point of view both as customer and ex Debenhams staff member

you will probably do a role play, where someone will ask you for something, the D/W did one, where someone was doing a work buffet lunch

she was shown a number of boards with different foods on, then you offered these for the buffet, things to think of No alcoholic drink (drink driving) cater for Veggies and no where to heat food in the office, hence you want cold snacks/nibbles etc

at the end of the role play, they may ask you where to pay, what ever you do, don't point over there, offer to take them to the till, offer to help them carry there shoping (a very good brownie point this one)

    good luck

Lexx dont forget they do online food ordering service. I almost failed because I forgot to mention this to customer. Personally it wouldnt occur to me to order food online being someone who likes to see what theyre getting..
