Engagement Rings

I would definitely go with the previous advice of asking her sister or her close girl friend for help. Girls do go shopping for jewellery together or just browse the shop windows and say, which one would you like? It would be quite easy for a friend to ask her ring size without giving anything away (e.g. trying on the same ring and saying, it looks better on you, what size are you? or both getting their sizes measured in a shop).
My fiance asked my sister for advice and picked the perfect ring n the right size. My sister already knew what sort of thing I'd like, as we'd discussed it when she got her engagement ring. After tehy's bought the ring and before he proposed, my sister pointed a ring display out to me in a jeweller's window and said, which one would I like? I picked one almost exactly the same as they had chosen for me, so she reported this back excitedly to my boyfriend.
When he actually proposed, I was overwhelmed, and I loved the fact there's been a big conspiracy to choose the perfact ring.
Good luck choosing!0 -
I know her well enough to trust my own judgement in buying a ring - it's just finding that ring.
If you're going to buy the ring online, you can check out Diamondcodes and it might give you an idea of what's out there.
They also have coupons on there but I think most of them are only for online use:

I think it's great that you're getting her the ring without consulting her taste but it still might be a good idea to ask her sister/best friend what they think.the ring has to be either platinum or white gold
That shouldn't be a problem since white gold is the most popular choice of metal by far for diamond rings. Platinum may be bit harder to find.No trees were harmed in the posting of this message;

Do they? I reckon that if I ever, ever went browsing for jewellery with either of my sisters or my best mate, they'd think I'd lost the plot....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
My best friend and I went baby shopping when I was pregnant and happened to spot a lovely little jewellers on the other side of the road. We popped in and had a little look (as you do!) as we were drawn to all the shiny stuff. She spotted a lovely white gold ring and tried it on. It was massive. She absolutely loved this ring and said that if she and her boyfriend were ever to get engaged, she would want a ring like this.
When she went home she was waffling about this lovely ring to him and he then had to go a really round about route to find out which jewellers it was in. It was a second hand ring too so no way she'd have got the same.
The next day, DH and I were smashing a kitchen wall down (again, as you do!) and her boyfriend turned up on the doorstep. Very unusual because he was so shy and quiet. He came up and had a cuppa and then just burst out, "Is this the ring because I've bought it now and can't take it back!" He was already planning on proposing to her when they were on holiday in America and now had a ring to take with him. He then had to ask me her ring size to get it resized before their holiday. They didn't get to go, they were going on a split break to New York and Vegas in October 2001. She phoned me on the evening of her birthday and told me off for not telling her about the ring because as her best friend I was supposed to tell her everything!
Funnily enough, DH bought me earrings this Christmas. About a week before he bought them, I was drooling at shiny stuff and showing him what kind of ring I would love to have one day. I scrolled down and said "Oh but not Rubies, I hate Rubies!" Yup, you've guessed it, the earrings are ruby. I still wear them though because DH and DS chose them together. DH said to DS "are you sure she'll like them, they're ruby" "Yeah Dad, she'll love them"
D'you know what, I do too
because my boys went out and chose me something sparkly. DD got me a chalk board and a silicone fish slice and I think she dragged them round about 5 town centres trying to find one. Bless her, I've been looking for one for about 4 years! Ive been with my boyfriend for 4 years and he proposes all the ttime we are only young im 20 and he's 22 but when he does he does t with silly things like a haribo ring or a costume jewellery ring or a hoola hoop etc. He knows i will marry him but we were talking the other day and i told him that when its the rright time and he proposes properly he has to choos the ring without any knowledge from me as i think this makes the whole thing extra special and the ring special too as he would have choosen it for me by himself and i get to wear it for the rest of my life knowing he choose that especially for me....although i do show him pictures of the types of ring i want hahaha:santa2: :rudolf:
