Keeping high broadband speed whilst switching from TalkTalk possible?

Hello,

I would be grateful if someone could possibly please spare a moment or two to advise on the following:

After a very dissatisfactory treatment from TalkTalk following a recent complaint, mum has switched her telephone and broadband service to Sky.

I have my own telephone line in the same property, which I also have with TalkTalk. I wanted to switch my service as well. Unfortunately, as Sky only allow one account per household, I am unable to do this, and even having both lines on the same account under my mum's name, I would not be able to have a broadband service on my line.

I have been looking into other service providers and here lies the problem. I currently receive a download speed of approximately 11MB with TalkTalk. However, all the speed checkers indicate I would only receive 4MB with anyone else, having tried BT and PlusNet so far.

Have TalkTalk done something unique to themselves to allow for such a high speed and in this case why is mum able to get 11MB-17MB (estimated) with Sky? Am I effectively locked into TalkTalk simply to get a reasonable broadband speed?

I would appreciate any help with this anyone can offer.

Thank you in advance, all the best for now and take care.

Hussein.

It would seem TT and Sky both have their own LLU kit in your exchange, you can check here
    http://www.samknows.com/broadband/exchange_search

If any other LLU ADSL2+ operaters are available ie BE/O2,C&W etc you should be able to get similar speeds
Talk talk Broadband is also resold by Vivaciti and Xilo amongst others should you want to continue with TT Broadband but not TT

BT Plusnet etc would be using standard ADSL which explains the difference in speed estimates

    Hello,

Thank you very much for taking the time to get back to me.

I was wondering if I may ask a big favour? I am partially sighted and whereas I have loaded the page for my exchange from SamKnows, I cannot seem to find the information on which LLU providers are in my area - perhaps this is rendered graphicallY? Could I perhaps please trouble someone to post the providers here so I can read them as text? The link for the exchange results is:
    http://www.samknows.com/broadband/exchange/NSPRT

Thank you very much in appreciation for your help, and I apologise for the added trouble.

All the best for now and take care,

    Hussein.

On the samknows site in the link there is a map on the right hand side, directly under that there is list under the column headed 'LLU operator presence'

    Hello,

Thank you very much indeed for the explanation. Knowing what to search for from your advice I was able to find this on the web page. Looks like I still have a few options to try, so thank you again for at least helping me to assure myself I'm not at the end of the road.

All the best for now and take care.

O2/BE are the only other LLU operator on your exchange, according to samknows. (AOL are TalkTalk). Orange use BT equipment now - they no longer have their own LLU equipment - so this might mean normal ADSL (ADSLMax, 8meg) as BT do not show any 21CN service.

    Hello,

I was wondering if I could ask some additional advice and would be grateful for any help.

I am having great difficulty in finding any alternative to TalkTalk that will offer the same speed, even on an LLU. I went to BE's website but they do not offer service in my area. I went to O2, but their checker still only showed me receiving 6Mbps estimated speed. I receive 11Mbps with TalkTalk.

Is there any reason for the discrepency, and if not, does this mean that I am effectively locked out of any choice just to keep an acceptable broadband speed?

Thanks as always for your time.

All the best for now and take care,

    Hussein.
