Extending Virgin TV cable

Would anybody know where I could get the cable to extend the location of the TV to another part of the room?
The Virgin cable was fitted when I we upgraded to all 3 products which basically gave us broadband phone and HD TV and an extra cable and HD box upstairs to a bedroom. Now we want to move the upstairs TV to another part of the room but the cable is too short. Is there any way I could purchase the cable rather than getting Virgin in to extend the cable at considerable cost no doubt?

You can't really use bog standard aerial cable as I've been to too many faults where that's been the cause,You need a good quality coax & proper fittings.
CABLE
You need 2 of these;
F CONNECTORS
Then all you do is unscrew the existing cable from the Isolator or splitter & connect the new cable, the's a guide on that site how to fit an F Connector.
Or you could bung a VM engineer a fiver for making you up a cable,I used to get that quite a lot.0 -
Or you could just buy an extension from Maplin. Come in 2m and 5m lengths

I wouldn't use that cable to hang my washing out, its poor quality and its not even cheap.0 -

I second that. The cable they use to make that is very poor quality RG59,which is the thinnest cable you can get. (bar Shotgun cables used for Sky+)
We stopped using it at what was then NTL/Cabletel years ago as it was found to be inadequate for digital installs. Now the RG59 that we used to use is more rigid than that stuff Maplins one is made from, which is the cheapest cable you can get. (I took one apart once to change a connector on one end on a Sky fault.0 -
Jesus! Just offering advice. I have used extension cables from Maplin on both my Sky and Cable services and both have been great.0

Sorry, just pointing out that those cables are,in my experience as a NTL/VM fault tech & then a Sky engineer, little or no use for cable services, don't get me wrong, they're ok for Sky on short runs but cable isn't as simple as Sky.For one you have forward & return paths, signal levels that need to be balanced & adjusted using attenuators & equalizers. If the signal levels too low then you may have to fit a booster,if it's too high, then you can use a cable simulator.
If you call VM out for a fault & it's found that you use one of those cables, you can be billed £50 as well, one of the main faults you get with them cables is signal egress & ingress, which can affect your broadband service.0 -

So was I, differing opinions are OK and too be expected on a public forum.
If you use the maplins cable it will attenuate the signal at a greater level than better cable available at a cheaper price, that is all.
Wether the attenuation effects the picture will depend on the length of the run and the signal initially provided.0 -
The 100 type cable is very good, but I doubt you will need it for a 10 meter run across the room. Just don't introduce more connections. Use one length of cable to connect the V+HD box to the wall isolator, and you should be OK.

Yes, I know, B&Q and Maplin prices are a joke.
But then you have to pay shipping by mail order.
I usually try to order enough stuff in one go to qualify for free shipping.0 -
I bought the extension kit from Maplins for my Virgin Media box as a test while I was waiting for the good quality stuff that I ordered.
Was not worth the £11 they wanted, my signal levels shot through the roof and the channels broke up.
You will find the quality of cable does matter more with Virgin than Sky which seems to take anythingDavid
£1 of debt is too much for me!0
