BG Boiler Maintenance Renewal Price Rise

We have just received our annual boiler maintenance renewal and the price has gone over £200 for a Homecare 100 agreement. As I'm ex BG I get a 10% discount and £6 off for Direct Debit which comes to £178.09 or £14.84 per month. Checking on-line the exact same cover with BG is £156. So I rang to ask why and was told that this is an introductory offer and ours is based on the age of the boiler and the number of call outs. The boiler was installed by BG 5 years ago, it is serviced by BG and we can't recall the last time we called them out. I then had to cancel this renewal and take out a new contract as they couldn't discount our discounted quote. If we accepted the quote it would cost us £22 to receive a £20.46 discount. The agreements are for one year so please check particularly BG pensioners as your staff discount is worthless, then renew annually. If anyone reading this is going to a future AGM it would make a good question.
Good luck.
Bill

This is very common. And widespread.
The same applies to AA/RAC breakdown cover and most car/home insurance. Year one is cheap, esp if applied online, then the renewal skyrockets. The company relies on a good % of customers just auto-renewing.
So either always phone a negotiate another discount, or cancel and sign up online again.0 -

I was made redundant by a telecoms company many years ago. They kept my phone bill discount in place for about 7 years. Did I ever ring and ask them to remove it........??0

There is no need for the op to ask for the discount to be removed bgas/centrica pension holders keep their discount for life
