Holiday in term time not authorised, will I be fined?

There has to be some bright kids, they can't all be either average or below expectations! The ones who mention the reason they think their kids might not be affected because they are bright might indeed have bright kids, then there are all the other reasons (wanting to go on holiday and not paying a fortune being the main reason). It might also be the case that those whose kids are not bright are less likely to feel comfortable with taking their kids out of school, or they do not have the time or inclination to come here and talk about it...0

And how about the fact that my DD teacher told her that she had reached level 6 in Maths, but she couldn't teach her at that level because it was beyond her expectations in Y6, so my DD spent most of the last months of school doing things that she already knew how to do. I'm not angry with the school they did challenge her as best as they could and I am grateful for the time they spent to do so, but again, total double standards, ok for the school to say there is a limit to the level they can teach my child, but my claiming that she might not have missed anything by being away for a week and I am taken to pieces
Many of your posts seem to be saying "I might have done wrong but my reply is that the school has also done wrong".
Strange logic. Can we just take it as read I didn't mean to offend you?0 -
Here I have a huge problem. Lots of kids are picked up by Premier League clubs early in their lives, and then dropped just as quickly. To me it is a grave error to rely on this and let academic work slip down a rung. Even if (and what the stats are for this I have no idea, but probably very low) they do make it to the top, injury and age eventually catches up with them. Today even sportsmen need quals to fall back on.
My kids played table tennis and Rugby at county level and at least one of them could probably have gone further but it would have been at the expense of school work which we couldn't justify.
100% agree. Can we just take it as read I didn't mean to offend you?0 -
Very few, if any of the school trips are run in half term now, and nor does everyone go on them.
Almost all of our drips (Duke of Edinburgh is the only exception because of the centre) are not during term time. Correctly.
Any "opportunities" (eg some kids got to play tennis with Novak Djokovic a couple of years ago) are weighed up and the kids logged on a database, together with when they are taught their curriculum entitlement to catch up.Can we just take it as read I didn't mean to offend you?0 -

Strange logic.
I think it is more that those in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.
Or that it is a tad hypocritical to allow higher degrees of importance to be attached to open days/trips/sports etc, in that they seem able to outweigh the core curriculum needs when it suits, and yet not apply the same consideration to parental requests.0 -

The point here is that you are on a temporary contract and as such they need (legally need)you to be available for the whole of that period or why would they engage you?
Put another way, suppose in two weeks they have a flu epidemic and 50% of the kids were absent and they told you not to come in for a week because of it. Would you be happy?
They need someone to perform your job so they will have to get cover or get another member of staff to cover your hours, which, if it can be easily done, begs the question of why they need to employ you.
If you sign a contract for a certain period you need to be available for that period full stop. Harsh though it seems.0
