Afternoon,
its been years since I have had a mobile phone that hasn't been one of Apples little wonders - and in all honesty I think it will be that way for a while.
But I used to be quite up on what were the best handsets on the market, so now a friend has come and asked me to commender what handset to go for....but I really haven't a clue!
so without going into specifics about whether he likes touchscreen, will he be streaming media etc I just thought I would ask you what is your favourite handset out there at the moment?

Personally? I like the HTC mobiles. I am lucky in that I am in London where there are many stores who have demo mobiles (many do not work, dead battery or locked but some do!) I have managed to work out the way a mobile interacts with me differs per brand more then it differs with make.
I love the Apple handsets but aside from being a bit bulky compared to most other phones, they are stupidly expensive in comparison to everything else. I don't even bother looking at them as an option as a result.
I liked the specs on the Samsung (better battery then the HTC and seemed to offer a few other bigger and better things) but just didn't like the way the screen felt a bit flickery to me. Maybe fine for everyone else but bugged me! I'm not happy to spend money on something I can already pick holes in, I know myself too well and inside a few months it would irritate me more then its worth.
I had a look at the Nokia handsets and they seemed a bit flickery also, sad as the battery didn't look too crazy and a trusted brand.
Sony Ericssons I have just had issue after issue after issue with in the past, just when I had wondered what they had to offer, I had a friend warn me off the brand after running through her issues which reminded me of my own. Not an option.
With the HTC models they do seem to react in a smoother way IMO which works for me. I have not though earmarked any of their models to watch for price drops though as the battery power is just too low and would get to me too much. Other then moan to HTC there seems no chance of this getting better although the newer version of the Sensation is supposidly meant to have better battery power, will wait to see what others find but having a phone I pay for which I then have to mess around with changing batterys with or have to hold back on how much I can use it because of battery power...not OK and not something I am prepared to put up with!
I'm still holding out for a model I can both afford and is something I like to use but at the moment nothing seems right for me. Having picky perfectionistic tastes is a double edged sword, it means I am phoneless (actually getting used to it!) but also have so far saved aprox £140 and thats just the contract price without call charges and extras.0 -

Brand and make are the same thing. You mean brand and model.0 -
Thanks jennie - that was really useful!
you pretty much sum up all the opinions I had too.
I think HTC is the way to go - but he just needs to be aware that battery life is an issue.
thanks again

And spaceboy - perhaps Jennie was talking about the different mobile brands rather than phone brands. personally I hated the way Orange imposed changes to the operating system on its phones.
Therefore Phone A on O2 would be better than Phone A would be on Orange. Same phone, just with different brands attached0
