Better check, your tin hat is a bit squiff on your head or it's hampering your brain wavelengths ;)

With regards to being burgled or sticking a knife to my throat, my properties have alarms.
Although not foolproof, most burglars scarper when the sirens start

Incidently, what stops rented property being broken into?
What's the comparitive difference with my family home?
P.S. I live in a gaurded estate as well, so provides even more protection.

Again, my morals are sound, my standards are very good and my tenants are happy

You completely missed the point. I was just pointing out that you attitude of doing ANYTHING to provide for you and your family is wrong. And instead you should look to do this within certain moral parameters.

Being a BTL landlord is like being someone who mugs people on the street. The end result is the same. And people who excuse them are like people who know who the muggers are but protect them from the police.

Oh dear percy, not a good crowd to be linked with.
I rate you far higher than that.

So the landlords are exploiting the kids by fixing their roofs and paying for their kitchens are they now? Not to mention clearing their gutters. What TOTAL BASTERDS.

The problem here is not landlords, it's the fact that not enough homes are being built. That puts the cost of any sort of accomodation up because there's competition for it. If you have a rented sector, you have landlords of one sort or another, and this may as well be individuals as corporations. By and large private landlords are more decent than, say, Hoogstraten and co.

Do you honestly think there's a class of pre-existing "honourable" landlords who are being usurped by all this awful new money? Or if these new BTL landlords went away prices would suddenly dissolve away to nothing and all the hard working young people would suddenly be gifted deposits and be able to borrow again?

If you prevent people from borrowing to buy through mortgage rationing AND you prevent building by ridiculous planning regulations, prices will go up for rented and owner occupied properties. That is an inexorable fact of life.

Oh, and it's very easy to say you'll give your inheritance away. I doubt you would personally, if you do then good luck to you. It won't help anyone much. If you really want to help then lobby your MP to allow more building and more lending to first time buyers.
How on earth have 3 people thanked this post! Julieq makes some good posts, but generally she is wrong and this is a particularly wrong post lol.

Actually, no one is forced, co-erced, beaten up to sign a lease with me or indeed for the tenants that have extended their lease to stay in my properties.

Indeed, I am simply offering a rental opportunity (that the government have decided to privatise) that is open in the free market.
My standards are such that I have never had a problem with voids.

You are coming across as someone who expects and demands everything handed to them on a plate or you'll have a hissy fit.

Time to grow up and realise that it's a tough world out there and you should man up to live in it.

I would also recommend visiting a really poor country and have the self reflection to realise that you don't really have it that bad.

Aw, I wondered when someone would roll out this sad little arguement.

You see it cuts both ways. And I would argue that it is people like you who expect everything. Or rather, who have learnt to expect everything on a silver platter.

You have received unprecedented government intervention (which flys in the face of a free market) to prop up the housing market, which is causing rents to rise. This is completely wrong. The banks should of been left unsupported. The people who cant paY their mortgages shouldnt receive government help. Housing benefit should be capped at about half what it is currently.

You are the one who is expecting and getting everything on a silver platter. I just want things to be fair and right.

Blimey. This thread is a little insane!

Theres a lot wrong with BTL, but it's governments you need to be looking at, they are the ones making it worth doing, indeed, they have taken action to make it even more beneficial to landlords, while making it worse for tenants.

At some point the tide will turn, and renters will be favoured by politicians. But until that point, nothing much is going to happen, apart from politicians talking tough, and ending their ideas there.

I'm all for having a pop at the greedy landlords who cut corners wherever possible and squeal for HPI, but I don't particularly think ISTL comes across as such.

IveSeenTheLight: "Well its tough world out there and they have to man up to live in it. By the way son here are the keys to your new flat. no rent just water the plants every once in a while"

Doubt all you want. I will give it away. Some people cant understand what it is like to have morals I supoose, and so doubt any good intentions because they cant understand it.

Hypothetical morals are brilliant, aren't they? How much of your earnings do you give away?
