Dare I say your counter is a bit rubbish.
Which do I need more shelter or football/movies?
One has a capitve market the other doesn't, we don't all need more TV channels but we do all need shelter.Have my first business premises (+4th business) 01/11/2017

BTL is scummy! Its capitalising on young/poor people being unable to buy property and locking them into paying rent for the rest of their life.
...........................................
BTL Landlords are selfish and its disgusting. There is no flaw to my logic, but I welcome a counter arguement as long as it isnt rude/name calling. Lets have a mature discussion if you dare.
Well, let's look at this.
Part of the reason why I have invested into BTL property is to provide security for my family.
I have children and by securing property now, I'm helping to provide for my children if needed.
You may think this is selfish, but that's life.
Looking after and providing for your family is one of natures attributes.:wall:

The problem with this is do you feel no guilt, yes its very well providing for your children but when it means robbing somebody elses children to do so does this bother you?Have my first business premises (+4th business) 01/11/2017

You'll probably find that almost all other asset classes have outstripped property, especially in your lifetime.
Without all the faf and potential downsides.0 -

Well your parents are in the same boat as we are by having made a mahoosive profit on their property. If they feel as strongly as you then you should persuade them to sell their house and move into a council house. The money raised should then be donated to Shelter or some similar organisation. Even if you can't persuade them to do this, when you receive the property in their will (and I hope that is a long long time away) then you should automatically donate it to a worth cause.
How's that sound?0 -

Maybe, maybe not.
What's the risk of them being able to own in the future having secured property now against their opportunity to own.
There are already reports of generation rent:wall:

Yes but what other asset classes can you put a 10% deposit down on and receive the benefit of inflation on the total price?
What are the potential downsides on owning a property for in excess of 25 years?
What is the faf with owning a property?0 -

Children dont deserve to benefit from their parents wealth. Again that is wrong. Children should live by their own wealth, not a hefty inheritance off an immoral btl landlord.I am not a financial expert, and the post above is merely my opinion.:j0 -

Really, get real and understand the world.
The facts are: -- BTL counts for approx 10% of the mortgaged property, probably a far smaller percentage of all property.
- BTL moved into a market created by the governments sell off of social housing
- BTL took up less of the market share than social housing reduced
- The generation before were also renters, they just rented council housing
- Property conditions have dramatically improved since BTL increased.

I intend to donate 100% of any money I am left to charity. In fact I will persuade the person to do this themselves if it will save on tax.
But not to shelter as they dont represent anything. Their views are contridictory. I.e. they want people to be protected from repossesions yet also moan about ftb not being able to get into the market.I am not a financial expert, and the post above is merely my opinion.:j0
