Laptop keeps crashing, with an error message, can you help please

Options
Hi
My laptop after about 30 mins keeps crashing/turning the screen blue with the following written, word for word

"A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.
A process or thread crucial to system operation has unexpectedly exited or been terminated.
If this is the 1st time you have seen this stop error screen, restart computer. If it appears again follow these steps:
Check and make sure any new hardware software is properly installed. If this is a new installation ask hard/software manufacture for any windows updates you might need.

If problems continue disable or remove any newly installed hard/software. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing.

If you need to use safe mode yo remove or disable components, restart computer, press F8 to select adavnced start up otions then select safe mode.
Technical info:

*** STOP: 0x000000F4, 0x00000003, 0x89FDD3B8, 0x89FDD52C, 0x805D29E4

Beginning physical dump of memory.

Thats the end of the spiel.

I have to remove the battery and power supply as it wont let me switch off and doesnt power off itself even if left.

Thing is I have not installed anything lately.

Appreciate any help, I'm no good with technology so apologies in advance.

take a look in the event viewer for any possible device problem; this can sometimes happen with a suspect usb device plugged in -- or what windows considers to be causing problems. for example, this happened with my Ozenda wireless dongle -- and once i removed it everything was okay. also, might be worth running a quick scan with malwarebytes . if all else fails, try a system restore -- roll it back to a last known working state. an approx. date will suffice.

  • Windows may have installed something with you knowing or malware etc.

What version of windows do you have?

According to wiki its a misconfiguration of your system

    http://www.wiki-errors.com/wiki-errors.php?wiki=0x000000F4

You could try a system restore to before the problem started.

Go to start, Programs, Accessories, system tools, system restore, pick a date a back up was done before the problem starts (windows will do a back up automatically). Then just follow the on screen instructions.

Note you shouldnt loose files but you will loose programs that have been installed since the back up date you choose, but as you have said you haven't installed any it shouldn't be a problem

    Thanks,
Tried to do the system restore but it said that system restore had been turned off. I have turned it on, applied, but today is the earliest date I can restore to. Any other advice how to get round this please. Unfortunately I dont have any discs for it.
    cheers

    another option here:

and i would still remove any external devices u have attached -- be they mice, dongles etc. and then see if the problem reoccurs. this can often happen with a suspect external device as i explained above .

Thanks, there is nothing external connected other than the router and still getting it. From the options you posted would it be the start up repair I am going for as the system restore I cannot put a date on?
    cheers again

from the link i gave above : click on :

To open the System Recovery Options menu on your computer

system restore works from within windows ; recovery above initially runs from outside the windows front-end; don't confuse the two.

F4 errors are usually Page File related, most commonly seen after in Windows Operating Systems that have been upgraded rather than cleanly installed (although not exclusively).

Click on Start (or Start Orb for Vista/Win7), browse Programs, Accessories and Right Click "Command Prompt". Select "Run as Administrator".

In the black Command Prompt window type "sc config afs start= disabled" without the quotations and press Enter (note the <space> before disabled).

Didnt even see the above highlighted post before it was deleted. Thanks for the new advice. I'll try it this morning when I get a minute as I've only just got in work, will let you know how I get on. Thanks again I DO appreciate it.
  • There are two other possibilities - If the laptop is overheating caused by dust in the cooling system then it will cause a shutdown. Secondly, the memory (RAM) could be defective. Try the software options first though.
