  • My suggestions: (these are all free on Project Gutenberg):

    'Walden' by Henry Thoreau
    'Thrift' by Samuel Smiles
'How to Live on 24 Hours A Day' by Arnold Bennett (it's a self help book about time management)

I love my Kindle and wouldn't be without it now. I haven't paid a penny piece for content, as I tend to only read classics on it. I did however spend £27 on a thing called a Klever Kase which makes your Kindle look like a nineteenth century leather bound book - sad, I know!

Have just got 'Thrift', thanks Austin. :) I'm the same - wouldn't be without my Kindle and have it in a nice case. I tend to only read Classics on it too.

    Thanks!

Many thanks for this I have just downloaded it. I have just seen it on another part of Amazon and it is £3.33, although your link is still showing 00.00.

I haven't had my Kindle long and I had not thought of downloading Puzzle books so I really appreciate this link. I notice there are Kindle books for crossword puzzles, but no way to fill them in. Very naughty of amazon

Thanks again for finding this and posting it. :)

    Hi all :)

  • Hmmmm. Now I am googling Kindle! I have been steadfastly refusing them and now because of free OS style books I am succumbing.

I'd have thought that any book that was free or very cheap will save someone money, and will therefore tick the "old style" box ;):p

They are quite good - it's not actually leather, it's a sort of photographed leather cover on plastic - but it looks very realistic even close up. I have the generic 'my kindle' version.

It is rather expensive though for what it is, although it's craftsman made in England supposedly, so that's probably the main reason. It also comes in lovely wrapping with a handwritten thank you note.

If you want something similar for less, there are some youtube videos that show you how to make your own case from an old book. The reason I didn't do this was because I didn't have the heart to cut up a nice old leatherbound book! You could probably find something suitable in a secondhand bookshop though.
