Court day looming and I feel rotten

Morning Guys, just a quick question, my partner wants to come with me to court on Monday for morale support bless him, would that be acceptable do you think?

So cannot wait until this is all sorted, such a worry it has been for us. I'm looking forward to that feeling of freedom when I emerge from the court. but what if they decline my application? Does this happen alot?

Reasons for br was the worst part for me, and I am still not totally happy with it. It seems such a jumble and to see it in black and white makes me feel so guilty and stupid, gosh I've made some terrible decisions in my time, but it stops now, this is my chance for a clean slate :)

I went through all my list of creditors last night to check the balances and update them on the SOA, another horrifying experience, god how did it all go so wrong. Had a little time to reflect and clearly it's all down to me, no point trying to point my finger elsewhere, I am a pushover, easily led, too eager to please and don't trust my own instincts. It's a common thread throughout my adult life, I posted on another board yesterday with another little issue I am trying to deal with, I am walked all over. But my BR date is my new beginning, a stronger me!!!

Sorry for the early morning rant guys just feeling a little rubbish, my poor little girls sit eating there breakfasts so happy and full of beans, they have no idea what is going on and I feel so guilty towards them, I feel Mum has let them down.

Anyway, must get ready for work. I will keep you updated with my court day, I may even post the night before if I'm that nervous

Thanks for reading!

Virtually never if you have taken advice that BR is the best thing.

    Good luck for Monday. :)

  • Hi, had to respond to your post, i had the same concern`s as you. You can take someone with you, which is a great idea because there was Nine other people going BR same day as i did, so can take a while. I am on my own with two young daughters, i used to feel i let them down, losing our home, but over a year later, we are all ok, the huge stress of debt has gone and i have moved on i suppose you just adapt, to the situation, im not proud of what happened, but its what it is, and its not going to change!! I wish you well, as other will say on here you will be fine, easy to say, but it will be ok. Good Luck....
  • Strictly speaking, the judge decides if you are bankrupt or not.

But it's really a matter of simple arithmetic, so as fermi says, there is no realistic chance you will be turned down.

    Taking partner will be fine.

You may or may not be called in to see a judge.

Routinely, your partner would not be allowed in for that bit.

But judges like to see their courts run smoothly, so tell the clerk before you are called in you are nervous and would be much happier if your partner went with you.

The chances are the judge will allow it.

Above all, try to keep your composure.

No one expects you to be anything other than thoroughly miserable, but outward displays of emotion can be difficult for the staff to deal with, which in turn makes it harder for you.

Thanks Wookie. It's comforting hearing someone elses experiences especially when they are in a similar boat. So glad you have moved on and things are working out for you, you can't help but feel guilt towards your children. But like you say it will be ok, so thanks again, I will report back on Monday :)

Thanks Neveragain, makes me feel a little less nervous. I'm sure things will go ok, it's the fear of the unknown isn't it. But as so many folk on here have posted before it's never as bad as you think it is going to be.

This time last week I had that feeling of freedom when I got out of court, I felt it was a new beginning.

I had similar fears the night before, but on the day it did seem like an anti climax, like others have said.

In the week I've enjoyed telling my creditors the good news, and from getting 20 calls a day asking for payment in the last few days it has all gone silent:)

Good luck, I'm sure it will go well for you:)

  • I know how you feel, ours is tomorrow. I really hope that they let me go in with my hubby because he cant speak (due to a stroke).
I will let you know how we get on.
Try to keep your chin up (says me)!
  • You'll be fine Lala. Dont worry. No one is going to look down on you and its something that they see every single day. I was so nervous last Thursday as well and there was at least 50 other people there to be seen.

I wish you all the luck in the world. Keep us updated on how it all goes :D
