advise please - do I have to pay?

I notice you discuss Private Car Parking Companies and if UNFAIRLY issued with ticket. I was parked outside a sports centre on the pavement ( road side not in car park) and issued with ticket from Capital Carpark Control Ticket for £70 going up to £120. Can this company do this. Surely on road side should be issued by council parking attendant. Am I safe to ignore? I was driver but not owner of the vehicle. Feels like two bit company as can only pay by sending a cheque and they threaten "YOUR VEHICLE MAYBE CLAMPED AND /OR REMOVED AT ANY TIME FOLLOWING THE ISSUE OF THIS NOTICE" Can`t even get maybe right!!!

On this forum we never differentiate about whether a private 'fake PCN' was 'unfair' or not - because THEY ARE ALL UNFAIR. I think you have been reading a two-year old article on here by Martin Lewis?

Stick to reading the forum here, we have new posts every day about this scam. Of course you are safe to ignore. They CANNOT clamp or remove a vehicle over an unpaid 'alleged debt', it's an idle threat.

You haven't had a parking fine, so you didn't get a 'PCN' at all! This is a fake one plonked on the car in the hope you are stupid enough to pay.

You are probably now at the beginning of a mail scam, you (the registered keeper) will usually receive some more scary letters (ooo-er!). But panic not, the letters are part of the scam so just ignore them like you would if you got a series of phishing emails telling you that you'd won the Nigerian Lottery and just had to supply your Bank details to collect your winnings...

You must sit down and read a few more important threads. You need to see the Watchdog paper aeroplane excerpt which is linked in a sticky (permanent info) thread near the top of the forum thread list:

    http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/...play.php?f=163

It's an absolute must-see for people who actually think a Private parking fake ticket is a real one. The Watchdog link (featuring an expert solicitor called Tim Cary) is on the sticky thread near the top of that list called 'WELCOME, please read before posting'!!!! :D

Then look at the sticky thread called 'PPC letters, what to expect' and make sure that the registered keeper of the car is ready to play a fun game of snap with each matching letter as it arrives. Once you start getting letters from a debt collector you can predict the next one, and the last one.

Yes the scary letters do look sort of 'official' and will be on debt collector and maybe 'let's pretend we are a solicitor' headed notepaper. This is part of the scam, so nowt to worry about and there is NO DEBT anyway so you can see you are on safe ground.

You will not go to Court, no-one will come knocking, no bailiff will call and they cannot lawfully clamp or remove your car over this.

Nothing about ignoring this con will affect your credit rating, just keep ignoring. Next time just laugh if ever your car collects a piece of unwanted rubbish called a parking charge notice (a real PCN is a penalty charge notice).

Ignore them but be careful if you go back there again if they have signs up saying clamping is in operation, although its illegal to clamp for an unpaid "ticket" they will soon find another reason to clamp you if your reg no is recorded!

Just a heads up as they mention clamping on their notice!
  • Thank you for your response. I have looked up Capital Carpark Control and they do have a fairly extensive website. Are you still confident I can ignore?

Many dodgy companies have impressive looking websites. That doesn't make them more respectable. Just keep ignoring them.
What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?
  • You could also check with the local council to see if the road is under private or council control. Its not unknown for private companies to exceed their remit and ticket on public land. If the council say its their land then dob them in.
I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.

A lot of them do but then they are run from a shed in the back garden of a council house!
Some of them have fancy addresses too but its normally a mail drop.

Yes, ignore them. Even the well-known parking company, NCP, issue fake PCNs which should just be ignored. And they are a huge company.

It is easy, a 'parking charge notice' is a fake PCN. Reals ones are 'penalty charge notices' and have a Council logo & address on them.

    Ignore.

Threatening to clamp to secure an alleged debt is unlawful. Send your phoney parking ticket to you local Trading Standards.
