My Nan has been diagnosed with cancer :(

My Mum rung me tonight to tell me the news.
Nan who is 80 found a lump in her breast, went for investigation/biopsy and it's turned out to be cancer.
They told her they will operate, try to remove the tissue, if that fails then they will remove the breast itself, they told her she is fit and healthy, they have seen ladies in their 30's/40's who are not eligible for this op as they are not fit and healthy, but she is, even though she is overweight and is insulin dependant diabetes.
I am pretty worried about her, just hope my granddad is not ready for her just yet.
Granddads mum fought breast cancer twice, had both breasts removed, was a midwife during the war, and lived to be 99 with her marbles still intact. So I keep thinking of this to keep positive.
Am hoping to go see her next weekend, would go this weekend but I can't get out of work
. Hope her OP goes well though.
Shall I send her a "Thinking of you card" ? Or is that more for when you have lost someone?

nothing wrong with a thinking of you card, you can get something blank and write your own words inside.
Breast cancer is one of the ones they can do a lot with, so what your nan needs now is for your to be thinking and acting positive. The frontier is never somewhere else. And no stockades can keep the midnight out.0 -
Hi
my husbands nan had breast cancer at 60. She had the lump removed and went on quite happily till she was 92. They told her that once you are past the menopause, it grows so much slower than it would in a younger person.
My friend has just had a mastectomy she is only 46, but looked great a few days later.
I hope it all goes well for your nan.0 -
Sorry to hear your news. It sounds like her performance test score was very good and that's an excellent sign. Send her a card and write something in it that's special to her and you..................
....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)0 -
My mum had breast cancer at 59 and had her breast removed, they said it was quite advanced and went quite deep when they removed it and she had her under arm nodes removed. Shes 84 now and is ok (dementia but this is obviously not related)0

Thank you

I will send her a card, But have no idea what to write in it, My words come out wrong, Only those that are really close to me understand what I mean.
Like I could say, granddad is not quite ready for you yet, you will pull through this, sending you lots of positive thoughts/hugs/kisses... etc etc.. BUT Don't know if this will be taken wrongly? Yes we used to be very close when I was little, with my cousins, but my parents moved away nearer to my Mums mum, and my parents fell out with my Dad's parents, never spoke for years until news came granddad was dying... So I don't know..
God I hate change..0 -
Hi daryld just sending your card with love will give nan a boost, perhaps you could give a quick call.
The big C is horrid isn't it, but there is so much more they can do now, especially if caught early.
Good luck

Sending hugs to you OP....
I know how you must be feeling right now. My Mum was diagnosed with breast cancer a few years ago , really rocked my world.
Send the card and write whats in your heart on the inside , your Gran will know exactly what you mean. The loopy one has gone :j0 -
hey - just thought id pop in rater than reading and running! I think a card is a lovely idea as long as your nan isnt one who doesnt like a fuss. My dad was diagnoses with a brain tumor last June, with a secondary tumor in one of his kidneys and a further tumor in his lung. The treatment they have on offer these days is amazing - chin up xSealed Pot challenge" member #1342 Online Saver £60.00

My mum had a mastectomy on her 76th birthday. They had previously removed the lump and a nipple but didn't get one edge clear. The surgeon said he'd remove a bit more but mum told him just to take the whole thing off. That was almost 3 years ago now and we (including her) can go ages without even thinking about it now. At the time though, that's all that takes up everyones thoughts - the endless rounds of hospital visits, chemo, radiotherapy, tiredness, etc. But it does pass. Stay positive for her. My mum's cousin had breast cancer in her early 80s - and that was before my mum, and she's still doing well.

I got a lovely card from Blue Mountain Arts. It was a 'hang in there' card. A bit different from your usual cards and it says everything that you want to say but don't know how to.0
