I recently tried to change a tin of primer from B & Q, (got the wrong colour, didnt even know it came in different colours) i didnt have receipt and they would not change it. I argued with all that would listen, didnt want refund just exchange but stated it 'was their policy' so beware!!!!!!!!0

We had fun when we bought the tiles for our bathroom- we bought so many boxes we got a bit nonplussed about checking them properly as we hauled them into the trolley. When we got to the checkout the cashier just scanned one and multiplied it. Two weeks later I start looking at the tiles in the shed to have a think about where my cuts were going to be and had a double-take about the measurements of the box on top.
Turned out we'd 'bought' one box of slightly different tiles, but obviously it hadn't been scanned and our receipt looked like we'd bought 8 the same- so we nipped to b&q with receipt and asked to do a swap. The girl on CS looked us like we were aliens and kept saying 'but this isn't on your receipt', suggested that we pay extra to do the swap (although the ones we wanted were actually a lot cheaper than the one we 'acquired') and then suggested that it would confuse their stock system if we swapped it. At that point we highlighted that their stock system was already confused and we'd actually be correcting it... she then had a 'lightbulb' moment and hastily told us to do the swap and get out without putting it through the computer etc.
Is the B&Q policy still 45 days? I thought it was 28. I've got quite a few bits from the bathroom that I would have taken back if it was longer (we only did the work at weekends). I like Wickes 90 day policy.0 -
as long as you have some proof of purchase it should be fine, even if its a bank statement etc. all it means is that we can track it on our systems to the correct day/time etc. the more info you can give us the better although the system does only go back so far. Unfortunately due to the amount of abuse on returns i believe thats why customers now need to have their receipt (proof of purchase). the returns policy has changed a couple of times lately going from hey yes bring it back you dont need a receipt to ooh yes we need a receipt and it has to be back with us in a certain amount of time. I would suggest you give it a go, some stores are better than others at ensuring we exceed the customers expectations rather than blindly sticking to the procedures we have to follow. Oh and as a tip if there are ever 3 for 2 offers etc check what you are buying and do them as seperate sales, make sure you put the cheapest 3 items through together, and the most expensive items together.Debt [STRIKE]Mar16 - £10,401eek[/STRIKE]: Jan 18 £4601 Paid off so far £5800 pay off 18 £1625

B&Q are a complete pain in the proverbial about returns. We took a hose back the same day we bought it, with the receipt. We hadn't been able to assemble it as a part was missing and we just wanted to exchange it, or have them take the part off another one. Took quite a lot of arguing before they even accepted anything was wrong with the hose.
We then spent another 15 minutes there because to process an exchange they had to take our address. I gave them the postcode, and they said it was wrong. Their computer didn't recognise it. I said tough, that's our postcode and even showed them my driving license with it on. They still said their computer database didn't have our postcode in it so they couldn't process the exchange! I ended up giving them the address we had moved out of a few weeks previously.0 -
Quick update, I was given a refund less 25% which I was happy with, I did manage to find the receipt in the end.0

well that's a relief. I'll sleep well tonight now

In defence of B & Q I fitted a kitchen last year at a property some distance away. They had an in store offer but I couldn't use it online.
The lady at the remote store couldn't be more helpful and painstakingly took down my order over the phone - not easy with 60+ items and 10 digit references. The prices were good too across the whole package.
It was delivered spot on to order on the dates/times agreed. Some erroneous bits on my part were exchanged without a problem.
I even dropped the lady a tin of chocolates in the next time I was down that way. I can tell you I don't do that sort of thing willy nilly.
Looking to do a bathroom soon just need to time the offers right:p"If you act like an illiterate man, your learning will never stop... Being uneducated, you have no fear of the future.".....
