Is there anyway to get a decent price for satellite broadband with reasonable usage?

Hi all I could really do with some help with this! Im looking at buying satillite broadband as the normal broadband is shocking in my area..

The problem is im quite a high broadband user at the moment and the packages I can find range between a mere 4gb and 12gb a month.. the latter being nearly £100 a month!!

is there anyway to get 20-50gb a month on satillite broadband for around £30..?

I think you've answered your own question.

Have you considered mobile broadband? If your 3g coverage is ok it'll be superior (in terms of cost vs quality) - three do an all you can eat bundle I think, or 15gb for £15pm.

I did a very quick Google search and found 12gb for £49.99 per month with the option of paying an extra £12.50 for unlimited downloads at night between 10pm and 6am. Extra gb will cost £15 per gb.

I really don't think you will get 20gb for £30 per month. Good luck in your search.

And there is usually an install charge of several hundred. It's not a cheap option.

Luckily for the OP, who I think lives in Wales, it's free but only for those who live in Wales. The installation fee is refunded by the government if the OP is in a "not spot".

I'm currently looking into this myself and, as long as you take their 10MB tariff, the hardware costs are being waived. Installation still costs £100 (unless you feel able to DIY) and the monthly charge is £55 but this allows 13GB per month and provides a max download speed of 10MB.

It's still expensive but where I live - Angus - there really is little choice. I wish I lived in Wales. No, wait...no I don't.

In answer to the original question - no. At least, I'd be amazed if you did find one. And if you did, I'd then be more amazed if the performance was good enough to use it.

Satellite broadband isn't actually that expensive now, setup with the dish can be had for around £199 which compares quite well with the cost to activate a phone line (usually £39 to £150 depending on who you go with).

However the drawbacks are latency (it's useless for online gaming, VOIP etc), speed (normally 10Mbps maximum though it's quite contended) and data allowances. That said, where it remains the only option, it can work surprisingly well.

The "unlimited downloads at night".... hmmm. I'm not sure what "at night" means with a satellite based system. Is there such a thing?

Ours is PAYG so it's £25 per 7GB but you can get a contract with 15GB per month.
