Hi, first post.
Does anyone know of any good double glazing firms near Bordon, Hampshire, have registered with Window Quoter website and been quoted by 2 local companies between £3,500 and £4,500 and a nightmare visit by Anglian windows quoting £14,000 !!!!! for the same 8 windows, Patio doors and front door, after a long 2 and a half hours this was reduced first to £8,800 and then after being asked to leave and making a call to someone, quoted £3,980 Just looking for some local firms to get quotes from as well.
Thanks in advance

Hi we are in basingstoke hampshire. We had a difficult time getting quotations from over 10 window companies. For us Anglian came down to as low as 6500. dont go by national window companies as they do a hasty job and wont probably come back for any follow up work and we might find them going bust before the warranty period. Dont pay any deposit until work starts.
We finally went by our local family run window company where we got to know all the partners of the company and they even agreed to a postdated cheque. I paid the due over a month later they were very understanding and honest. I had a french door and 8 windows done from them and after installing I found a dirty finger mark on the inside of the sealed glass unit and they agreed to re order the whole panel and replace it asap. Very helpful. I know from some of my friends the nation wide companies will give excuses for bodgy jobs. all this with 10 yr guarantee for just 4500. mind you, its got all top notch security features and vinyl beading and k glass.
We have several local companies here but this one seemed humble and not greedy. you could find someone similar or I dont know if I can let out their name here. they will be happy to come to bordon to do it. :beer:0 -
Hi,
(1st post) I am fast discovering that double-glazing is one of those items you need to haggle, haggle, and haggle over again and again. I am currently getting quotes in from a range of companies in my locality.
Company A quoted me £4500.
Next, like you, I had Anglian quote me over £10,000. The sales rep was here for around 2 hours. First off he suggested discounts as I applied via the Internet. Price down to around £5500. Then he suggested I had an advertising board outside. Price down to around £5200. I always try to arrange a "higher authority" to whom I must refer before I make any decisions. In my case it was my father whom I had to ring as he was paying. Of course, it could have been an imaginary "higher authority" on the other end of the phone.
My "higher authority" said "No way". I told the sales rep "No way". A phone call to his office based manager, a discussion about the likely numbers who would see the advertising, and the price suddenly dropped to £4500.
Again my "higher authority" said "No way". I told the sales rep "No way". More discussion with the office based manager, and alleged discussions with "a director". The manager wanted to speak to me. A miracle price of £3400 and something was offered to me.:rotfl:
I went back to company A. "Is there any possibility of moving on your price, because I liked what you had, but it's a bit high for my Dad to afford". Straight off, he offered to reduce to £4150. I mentioned I had a quote for less than £3500. He rang me back offering to do it for £3650 and pointing out the allegedly better design of his windows.:T
I told the rep from company C, when he arrived that I had already had had two quotes, and gave him no idea as to what price I had been quoted. No messing about, he gave me a price of £3150 for something similar to what Anglian had in mind, and £3500 for something similar to what Company A were suggesting. :A
I am still in the process of getting more quotes, but I do feel that I now know what "the right price" is. Never be pushed into accepting the first quote. I'll post back when it's sorted and let you know how I got on.
I do feel sorry for anyone who takes up Anglian's first quote, however. I suppose that if they try it on enough times, they must get lucky now and then. And that's why consumer's need to take revenge.0 -
Thanks for replies, have now gone with a local company, full cost being £4100, which we are happy with, this started at £4600 but negotiatied down to £4100, my wife had a tour of the factory and was offered different options which we had not thought of and had not been offered by any of the other companies. Being installed in 3 weeks time, will let you know how it goes0

As promised, I'm posting back. Anglian's lowest quote was not for tilt and turn which I had specified, and because they messed me about so much to begin with I ruled them out. To warn others though, they did ring back, and when I pressed them for a quote on tilt and turn they could only ADD 10% to their last quotation. I have now had the work done for just under £3,000 by a local company. It was their first quote, and I didn't hassle them for a lower quote, but I'm happy in the knowledge that it was at least 10% less than the nearest other quote.0

I've been phoning around for a quote for a conservatory for the last couple of months, I've always been advised to go with a local company but I insisted on comparing both local (North west) and national, I called Everest and Anglian and 3 local companies. As I expected Everest and Anglian were very pushy and expensive, the local three however were very competitive bar one!
The company that stuck out was Tudor Rose, very professional sevice, fantastic facilities and an unbeatable price. Give them a go, you never know, could well save you a few bob!
I told them I'd recommend them to others as they give recommendation fee's!!! so here goes - tudorrosewindows.co.uk. Please mention me when getting the quote, I may be able to earn myself some holiday money :j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j0 -
I am based in Nottingham and looking to get 15 double glazed windows / doors fitted.
To make it easy to give an outline of cost over the web, I have knocked up a website with all pictures and dimensions:
https://sites.google.com/site/nottswindows/
Please can you have a look at the job and give me an idea of cost. If you can give me an idea of cost based on following:
- All 15 windows and doors (refer to site above)
- Windows and Doors 3 to 15 (refer to site above).
I would like 2 separate quotes as I am not 100% sure yet if I want to get the front door and bay window done.
If possible, please can you give guidance the best type of double glazed windows / doors I should select, and recommend some good companies too. Thank you.0 -
Please do not go with Advanced Group. This has been the worst service I have ever had.
Being from Aberdeen, Thistle Windows and Bon Accord Glass should have really been my first choice but prices seemed a little high especially compared to Advanced Group Windows. There deal was great and for triple glazing but what a joke its been. You should see the attention to detail...or should I say the little attention to detail! Windows were a mess. Not only that, I had a fault with the window with in a matter of months. They sent someone round to repair the window but the guy came a day early and left the window handle at my front door! And that's without actually seeing what the cause of the problem.
But its ok though...he left a voice mail and said " Ive left the window handle at your doorstep, you should have no bother putting it on yourself". Yes this is a simple procedure but come on, what do you get paid for.
So my advice is never ever go with this company. My cousins boyfriend works for this company so this is why I went with them. When they come round for initial consultation they constantly tell you how shxt thistle windows and bon accord glass are. Its fair to say you get what you pay for.
Always go for Thistle Windows or Bon Accord!0 -
try this compare site its free and the only thing required is your postcode - No contact details - and then you can select styles and finished for windows and doors and its free

Oh no! No! No! No! I totally disagree, I wouldn't let Thistle Windows near my house with a barge pole. It's actually well known in my neighbourhood how bad they are. Their internal communication is diabolical to say the least, the sales reps are useless, they're only friendly when they try to lure you.
I prefer using the smaller companies, friendlier and you only speak to max two people to get things done. Unlike Thistle, I spoke to at least 10 people to get things done. Absolutely not recommended!0
