Apple TV?

Options
Does anyone know if DVD's, either played through the SuperDrive of a Macbook Pro or DVD's that have been ripped using HandBrake and put into iTunes will stream through Apple TV and onto my TV set?

I've looked at the apple website and it only seems to be movies that have been purchased/rented from iTunes. (As well as home made movies on your iPhone/iPad etc).

The way I understand it is that anything in iTunes is available on the aTV, including movies.

Anything in the iTunes store or anything in iTunes on my laptop?

anything in your itunes library is available on your apple tv. I rip dvds through handbrake, drag the files into itunes, and then they should be available on your apple tv. there are issues with apple tv connectivity though, look on the apple tv forums on the apple website and there is a lengthy thread of people with issues and their apple tv

Rather than going hunting for it could you give me the just of some of the issues?
  • Here is my 2p worth. Got an Apple TV last year and had problems streaming from my iTunes on an XP PC. When I upgraded my PC to Windows 7, the problems went away.

Still don't know what the difference was, but working fine now.

ha, so firstly had it set up for everything to get streamed, but it could never cope with my iphoto library. so stopped streaming photos and just used it for music and mainly video. in watching a film or 40 minute long episodes, it would lose my mac files after 20 minutes. i would have to go upstairs to my mac to switch off homesharing then log it back in again. I was then advised to turn off all screensaver options on apple tv, and since then have had no problems. The frustrating thing is that Apple claim to know of no problems. There is a rumour that the release of iOS5 and the updated itunes with that will sort the homesharing issues out.

i will try and find the forum on the apple store for you now...

Sorry HappyChappie, I meant iTunes on your computer(s). On the aTV, you can select computers, then select the media on that computer to play, be it a film or music.
