looking at 2 laptops which should i go for - facebook, wordprocessing assignments for school...
cheaper option - CPU and Memory:
Intel Celeron M925.
2.3GHz processor speed.
1GB DDR3 RAM memory.
250GB hard drive.
or for an extra £70 would it be worth getting this ??
CPU and Memory:
Intel Celeron dual core T3100.
1.9GHz processor speed.
1MB cache.
3GB DDR3 RAM memory.
320GB hard drive

The extra £70 would be better as the ram would allow you to run more applications on the laptop.0

Both Toshiba - i have had a satellite Toshiba laptop L500 off argos clearance for about a year and love it thats why i am swayed to Toshiba!!
Trying to prepare for Christmas when both DD want one - eek - at least with the cheaper one I could get both for under £500.

laptops always, by definition get out of date, hence I always recommend getting the best processor you can afford - One thing that one doesn't usually change. Adding ram is usually quite a (relatively) cheap upgrade. This assumes you want the machines to last. Hence I would go for the dual core machine rather than the budget m925 single core.
If you think you will replace them fairly quickly then go for the cheaper option.0 -

Neither of the above.
This Toshiba Satellite Pro C660-1RZ for £243.98 delivered is much better.

So dual core intel celeron is better processor than M925? but then would it really make much difference to a teenager who is doing school projects and a bit of internet surfing ///probably facebook!! Might be better with cheaper option until they are older and have more specific requirements.
eta - lapover post wannie - how did i miss that one as inbetween the two i picked out. Still buying two would come in under £500 - hate spending that kind of money but they will have to understand that there will be no extras apart from few very small stockiing fillers! - at least i know they will get used and wont be dust gatherers.
eta (2) - at least a year warranty with argos - but buying now for Christmas i loose 3 months of it - but dont want to chance leaving to near the time as probably will all go up in price!0 -
The RAM is completely inadequate on the first one-can't believe they're selling a new machine with only 1GB these days.
As is a 250GB hard drive. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

so this one it might have to be if i can convince myself to buy now rather than in 2months time ....0 -
The cheaper of your initial two choices will just bring you grief unless you add more RAM. Underpowered processor and inadequate RAM. The second is just too old.
The one in my post is the minimum for which you should go, if you are wanting to stick with Toshiba. It's up to date and the price is ok. DDR3 RAM is cheap. So upping it to 4G RAM will only cost £12 at the moment. But that can wait.0 -
