Which Bundle?

Hi guys,

It's my first post!

I've recently purchased a property with my partner and we're struggling to figure out which Bundle we're best doing?

Or whether we'd benefit from a bundle at all?

Our neighbours have Virgin Media, and seem happy, but I wonder...

Would we be better off using our Freesat box, signing up for Broadband only

OR

Joining up for a Bundle of some description?

Sorry to state the obvious, but if Freesat can give you the channels you want, then clearly you'll be 'better off' using a free service than paying for subscription TV.
Since broadband is exchange specific, I suggest you start with an exchange search on www.samknows.com to see what your LLU options are. Bear in mind that for any broadband service other than VM cable you'll first need a BT line installing (or reconnecting) in the property.
A bundle can be cheaper, but not always so.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • Thanks for the advice guys.

It's my first property, I've lived at my parents all my life, so my habits can't be determined greatly atm.

However, for what its worth, I estimate we'd benefit from 10mb internet, as my partner is a school teacher and I like to browse and watch the occasional YouTube video/iTunes movie...

TV - we watch whatevers on, if we've nothing else to do. I like to watch the odd series, such as The Wire, or currently Mount Pleasant, but we're not TV mad, hence, probably not needing 100+ channels.

And we both have iPhones, so I don't think we'd ever use the Phone, but, it appears cheaper to get a phone than not? all in all...

  • I just did an exchange search;

ADSL, SDSL, LLU & Cable available.

Virgin Media my only cable provider

AOL, 02, Bulldog, Orange, Sky, TalkTalk, Tiscali are the available LLU providers

    Market 3
Four or more 'principal' operators provide broadband services at this exchange. Service in this area has been deregulated!

    Is this any help?

O2 or Sky would be the obvious LLU suppliers to consider then (especially O2 if you can register a mobile for the £5 discount).
It appears that Freeview or Freesat will satify all your TV needs-no subscription necessary.

if you're not a heavy user of broadband and your contracts are o2, I'd recommend o2 - it runs on the same network as Be Unlimited (imo the best "mainstream" broadband provider) and is reasonably priced if you're an o2 customer. They have seriously heavy throttling of torrent services since their rehash around 9 months ago though, so if you're planning on doing any p2p avoid like the plague.

Again, if you're not a heavy user but you're not with o2 take a look at plus!net - they're reeeally cheap if you'll be using less than 10gb a month, and still pretty reasonable if you want a higher usage (60gb I think).

Take a look at Martins page on broadband, you pretty much have the pick of your choice.
